Seventh-seeded Italian Flavia Pennetta prevailed in the final of the Bangkok Open on Sunday with a 6-1 6-3 victory over unseeded Yung-Jan Chan of Taipei.
Pennetta's triumph over world number seven and Wimbledon champion Venus Williams in Saturday's semi-finals marked the first time she had beaten a top-10 player this season.
The 25-year-old rode the momentum of that win into Sunday as she emphatically secured her first title since 2005 in Acapulco, Mexico.
In a match that took more than five hours to complete due to problems with rain, Pennetta broke Chan three times in each set and won 56 per cent (20-of-36) of her first return points.
Ranked 97th in the world, Chan was making the first final appearance of her career. The 18-year-old has enjoyed most of her success thus far in doubles play, with four WTA doubles titles to her credit, including three this season.
