CHAKVETADZE SINKS MORIGAMI

Top seed Anna Chakvetadze claimed her fifth career title on Sunday with an easy 6-1 6-3 triumph over the seventh-seeded Akiko Morigami at the Western and Southern Financial Group Open.

Ranked eighth in the world, the top-seeded Chakvetadze improved to 5-0 in her career in finals.

The Russian claimed her third title of the year, also having won at Hobart and 's-Hertogenbosch.

"I didn't expect it to be so easy. I think she was tired, because she had a tough match yesterday," Chakvetadze said.

"I was trying to play every point very concentrated, because the last few days have been really up and down.

"If it had been like that today it would be really tough because she doesn't make easy mistakes and runs very fast. My game plan was to move her, make her run and be more aggressive."

Chakvetadze had lost her previous three encounters against Morigami, who was seeking her second title of the year.

But the latest meeting turned into a complete mismatch as Chakvetadze needed just under an hour to dismiss her Japanese foe.

Chakvetadze overcame six double faults by breaking Morigami's serve six times.

It had to be a disappointing finish to what had been a big week for Morigami, who also lost here in the final in 2005.

She had beaten second-seeded Patty Schnyder in the quarter-finals on Friday.

"It has definitely been a good week for me although I was disappointed to have played like this in the finals," Morigami said.

"Beating Patty gives me a lot of confidence, though. Anna was just too good. I give her a lot of credit."
