Roberta Vinci took advantage of an illness to Tathiana Garbin to win her first career WTA Tour title on Sunday.
The sixth-seeded Vinci emerged victorious in the Copa Colsanitas Seguros Bolivar on Sunday when Garbin fell ill in the third set of the claycourt event.
It looked like the top-seeded Garbin was on her way to her second career title and first since 2000 at Budapest after she won the opening set 7-6 (7-5) and held a 4-0 advantage in the second set.
However, the battle of Italians took a turn.
Vinci won the final six games of the second set, then was down 0-3 in the final set before the match was stopped.
