Martina Hingis clinched a fifth Toray Pan Pacific Open crown with a 6-4 6-2 victory over Ana Ivanovic on Sunday.

Hingis, who was runner-up last year, was beaten by Ivanovic in the Montreal final last August but the number two seed gained revenge and claimed the title in a one hour and 11 minutes.

The former world number one, who was playing in her eighth Tokyo final, converted four break points and maintained the pressure by winning 78% of points on her first serve.

Ivanovic, the number five seed, advanced into the final after world number one Maria Sharapova was forced to retire midway through their semi-final meeting at the $1.34million event.

Sharapova, the Australian Open runner-up and the 2005 champion, was trailing Ivanovic 1-6 1-0 when she pulled out with a hamstring strain.

Hingis booked her place in the final with a 6-4 6-3 victory over Elena Dementieva, who beat the world number six in the 2006 Tokyo final.
