Second seed Svetlana Kuznetsova registered a surprisingly easy 6-4 6-0 victory over the top-seeded Amelie Mauresmo on Sunday to claim the title at the China Open.
It was the eighth straight match win for Kuznetsova, the 2004 US Open champion from Russia who was coming off last week's title in Bali.
She has put together consecutive tournament wins for just the second time in her career.
Frenchwoman Mauresmo has had a breakthrough season, winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
She reached the semi-finals of the US Open earlier this month but struggled a bit here Saturday as she was broken six times and pushed to a third-set tie-breaker by Jelena Jankovic.
Kuznetsova came in having won her last two meetings with Mauresmo and pounced again, winning the last nine games of the match.
She had four service breaks during that stretch as she captured her third title of 2006.
The Russian had six service breaks in her 14-game semi-final beating of China's Shuai Peng.
The world's top-ranked player, Mauresmo fell to 4-3 all-time against Kuznetsova.
She reached her sixth final of the year but was denied her fifth title.
