Anna-Lena Groenefeld won her first WTA title after defeating top seed Flavia Pennetta in the final of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel claycourt tournament in Acapulco.

The German, ranked 22nd in the world, posted a 6-1 4-6 6-2 victory over Pennetta - who was the reigning champion at this event.

The second seed was delighted with her first tournament win and said: "I want to build on this victory and go as far as I can."
