Not even the world's top-ranked player could find a way to defeat Amelie Mauresmo.
The second seed from France, Mauresmo successfully defended her title at the Proximus Diamond Games tennis tournament Sunday by rallying for a 3-6 6-3 6-3 triumph over local favorite Kim Clijsters.
It was the 15th consecutive victory for Mauresmo, who has not lost since opening the season with a setback to Serbia & Montenegro's Ana Ivanovic at Sydney.
Since then, she has won three titles, including her first Grand Slam at the Australian Open and last week's Open Gaz de France indoors event in Paris.
Mauresmo earned US$95,500 for winning the US$600,000 Tier II indoor event, her fifth tournament title in her last six entered.
Sunday's clash was to be a rematch of the semi-final of the Australian Open.
In that match, Mauresmo had grabbed a 3-2 third-set lead when Clijsters rolled over her right ankle, and the Belgian only was able to play one more point before retiring.
The world's top-ranked player, Clijsters took home US$51,000 for her runner-up finish.
