Third seed Amelie Mauresmo won her third
straight title in Philadelphia on Sunday as she outlasted fourth-seeded Elena
Dementieva in the final of the Advanta Championships.
Frenchwoman Mauresmo defeated Dementieva 7-5 2-6 7-5 and claimed the first
prize of US$53,000 at the Tier II indoor event.
Mauresmo will be taking some momentum into the season-ending WTA Tour
Championship in Los Angeles. On Saturday, she eliminated Czech Nicole
Vaidisova, who had won 18 straight matches.
It was the third victory of the season and 18th career for Mauresmo, the
fourth-ranked player in the world.
Dementieva had a bit of an easier path to the final as she won her semi-final
by walkover when sixth-seeded Russian compatriot Nadia Petrova could not take
the court due to a bruised heel.
With Friday's quarter-final win, Dementieva secured the final spot in the WTA
Tour Championship.
