Nicole Vaidisova not only continued her hot
streak, she also prolonged Russian Nadia Petrova's search for an elusive title.
The second seed from the Czech Republic, Vaidisova claimed her third
consecutive title with a 6-1 6-7 (5/7) 7-5 victory over the top-seeded Petrova
in the final of the PTT Thailand Open on Sunday.
Successfully following back-to-back titles at Tokyo and Seoul, the 16-year-old
Vaidisova captured her 15th consecutive win. Her last loss was a setback in
straight sets to Petrova in the fourth round of the US Open in their only
previous meeting.
With the win, Vaidisova joined exclusive company, becoming just the sixth
woman to claim five career WTA Tour titles before her 17th birthday, joining
Tracy Austin, Andrea Jaeger, Monica Seles, Jennifer Capriati and Martina
Hingis.
Playing in her fourth career final, Petrova once again came up short.
Ranked ninth in the world, Petrova is the only player within the top 20
without a title.
