The sixth time was the charm for Klara
Koukalova.
The eighth seed from the Czech Republic, Koukalova rallied past countrywoman
Lucie Safarova, 3-6 6-2 6-2, on Saturday to win the Ordina Open.
The 23-year-old Koukalova had been 0-5 in WTA finals, including a 7-6 (8-6)
6-2 loss to Mary Pierce here last year.
"I was a little bit nervous in the first set and did not play well at the
beginning," Koukalova said. "This is my sixth final and I really wanted to
win.
"I had so many match points, and I just couldn't do it. By the fourth one I
was telling myself 'If you don't get this, I'm going to be very mad. Come
on!'"
The 18-year-old Safarova, who was playing in just her fifth career WTA event,
won her first career title in Estoril in April.
She had upset fourth seed Dinara Safina in the quarter-finals Thursday and number six
Gisela Dulko in Friday's semi-finals.
