American Venus Williams appears to be in good shape
heading into the French Open.
The top seed, Williams claimed her first title of the year Saturday with a 6-2
6-3 rout of Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic at the inaugural
Istanbul Cup.
Williams, who dropped just 12 games all week at the claycourt event, had not
won a title since the J&S Cup in Warsaw last May.
The American, who reached the final of Antwerp in February before losing to
Amelie Mauresmo, earned her 32nd career title.
Vaidisova, who turned 16 less than a month ago, won titles last year at
Vancouver and Tashkent.
The finalists were meeting for the first time.
The French Open begins Monday in Paris.
