Anastasia Myskina claimed the Kremlin Cup on
Sunday with a victory in straight sets over fellow Russian Elena Dementieva in
the women's event.
Myskina won 7-5 6-0 to beat Dementieva and continues to have the Indian sign
over her friend, having also beaten her in Paris to claim the French Open
title.
Myskina was seeded third going into the game, with Dementieva fifth. The match
was the first ever all-Russian final in the Kremlin Cup.
Moscow-born Myskina's success in front of her home fans caps a glorious year
for Russian women who had never won a grand slam title at the start of 2004.
Myskina's win in Paris was then followed by Maria Sharapova's triumph at
Wimbledon and Svetlana Kuznetsova's victory in the US Open which also came at
the expense of Dementieva.
Now three of four grand slam titles are in Russian hands.
