Top seed Elena Dementieva bounced back from a
horrific start to win her first tournament of the season in Belgium.
After being shut out in the first set against fellow Russian and third seed
Elena Bovina, Dementieva returned the favour in the second set before claiming
the pivotal third to win the Tier III Gaz de France Stars tournament at
Hasselt.
With the third set tied at 4-4, Dementieva won the final two games to close
out a 0-6 6-0 6-4 triumph and secure her first win in four finals this year.
She also avenged a 6-1 6-1 loss in the semi-finals at New Haven, Connecticut
in late August.
Dementieva was the runner-up at both the French Open and US Open this year and
also lost in the final of the NASDAQ-100 Open to Serena Williams.
Dementieva, the world number six, claimed US$27,000 for winning her
fourth career WTA Tour title.
