Unseeded American Amy Frazier cruised past
sixth-seeded Shinobu Asagoe of Japan 6-3 6-3 on Friday to win the Moorilla
International title.
With her victory, Frazier picks up her seventh career WTA title and first
since the 1999 Japan Open.
This was the 31-year-old's sixth trip to Hobart and her best previous finish
was runner-up to Australian Alicia Molik in 2003.
Asagoe is still in search of her first WTA title after two failed final
appearances.
The 27-year-old lost to Magdalena Maleeva in the championship at Birmingham
last June in her other attempt.
Frazier will meet Stephanie Cohen-Aloro of France in the first round on the
Australian Open.
Asagoe takes on 32nd seed Fabiola Zuluaga of Colombia in her opening match.
