Kim Clijsters made it short and sweet in the WTA Tour Championship final.
Top-seeded Clijsters routed number four Amelie Mauresmo 6-2 6-0, in 52 minutes on Monday night to successfully defend her crown at the season-ending tournament.
"I think from the start until the end I was very focused," Clijsters said.
"I played my best tennis here so far."
Clijsters won a tough three-setter on Wednesday over Mauresmo in the early part of the new round-robin format.
But in the final she sizzled while the French star fizzled in front of 8,925 fans at the Staples Center.
"I don't think when you're out on the court it matters what the previous results was," Clijsters said after improving to 7-2 lifetime against Mauresmo.
"I just think you have to start from zero and start focusing on that moment. That's what I did."
Clijsters worked efficiently and effectively to become the fifth player in WTA history to claim this event in consecutive years.
Though she lost her world No 1 ranking to fellow Belgian Justine Henin-Hardenne, Clijsters etched her name into history.
"Of course that's a little disappointing but I'm very happy I got to be number one, and I'm ending the year as number two. And that's not bad either," she said.
Clijsters won her tour-leading ninth title of the year and collected the $1,000,030 winner's cheque - the largest to be won by a woman - to become the first woman in sporting history to win over $4million in a single season.
This was a career year for Clijsters, who reached at least the semi-finals in 20 of 21 events and was runner-up at two Grand Slams.
Mauresmo, who picked up $500,000, praised her opponent's effort.
"She played great, not just here, but the whole year," she said.
"She's been a great player, she's been very consistent the whole year. So I think she deserved the win. She played better than me. I was not quite good enough to play my best."
After trading services breaks in the opening two games, Clijsters won five of the next six to take the opening set.
The 20-year-old Belgian continued the onslaught in the second set and closed out the lopsided victory on her second match point when the French star lined a backhand into the net.
