Slovakian Henrieta Nagyova
finally brought a halt to the remarkable winning streak of compatriot Lubomira
Kurhajcova to take the Volvo Women's Open title in Pattaya City in straight
sets.
Nagyova eased to a 6-4 6-2 victory to claim the crown for the second time in
her career as the unseeded Kurhajcova - playing in her first WTA Tour final
after defeating more celebrated names such as Saori Obata and Anca Barna en
route to the Thai showpiece - failed to repeat her previous exploits in the
competition.
Nagyova broke as early as the third game in the first set, and when she raced
into a 4-1 lead in the second it was clear there was no way back for
Kurhajcova.
It is Nagyova's ninth career title, and her first since 2000, as she again
impressed at a tournament that clearly makes her feel at home.
The Slovakian won the title in 1997 and reached the semi-finals in 1996 and
2000.
Nagyova collects a tidy 16,000 for her week's work, with Kurhajcova, the
revelation of the championships, pocketing a cheque for 9,000.
