Russia's Elena Dementieva won the final of the WTA
Tour Wismilak International tournament on Sunday, beating the top seeded
American Chanda Rubin.
Dementieva was ranked only two by tournament organisers but rallied to win
this event which could for the first time boast the presence of two of the
world's top 10 players in its final.
In the end it was easy enough for the Russian who won 6-2 6-1.
It was her second WTA win of the year following a success at Amelia Island.
Meanwhile, Rubin had to settle for runners-up spot as she missed out in her
attempt to win three titles in one season for the first time in her career.
The American has won seven career titles.
"It's been a wonderful week for me," said Dementieva.
"I've really enjoyed my time in Bali this week, and to win the title is just
a bonus. I normally start matches a little slowly, but today against Chanda I
was aggressive from the very first point.
"It was definitely one of the best matches I've played this year."
Runner-up Rubin has found the best form of her career this year, but she
accepted that in this final she was a definite second best.
"Clearly, she was just too good for me," said Rubin of Dementieva.
"I wasn't completely happy with my play, but Elena was very aggressive but
very consistent at the same time, and there wasn't really that much I could do.
"I've had a good week.
"I can take some positives out of the way I played in Bali."
