Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand beat Iroda
Tulyaganova in the final of the Indian Open to win her first WTA tour title.
Tanasugarn, 25, beat her Uzbekistani opponent 6-4 6-4 to add a singles crown
to the three doubles titles she has claimed since turning professional in 1994.
Her win continues the steady rise of Thai players on the world circuit.
Paradorn Srichaphan now has three ATP titles to his credit and the country's
Davis Cup team went close to reaching the Davis Cup world group before slipping
to defeat by a Tim Henman-inspired Great Britain side in 2002.
