Lindsay Davenport finally completed her return
from knee surgery Sunday, defeating fellow American Monica Seles in three sets
for her third Pan Pacific Open title.
Davenport earned her first crown since October 2001, posting a 6-7 (6-8) 6-1
6-2 triumph for her ninth win in 12 career meetings with Seles.
The victory came just over a year after knee surgery sidelined her for six
months.
Last year, Davenport went close to winning in her return from surgery, making
the final at four events and coming within a tiebreak of winning three of them.
Davenport earned her 38th career WTA Tour title - third among active players -
and avenged a loss to Seles at the season-ending Tour Championships, where she
had seven match points.
Seles, who is first among active players with 53 titles, was a runner-up here
for the second straight season, losing to Martina Hingis last year.
Davenport and Hingis shared the title here over the past seven years.
