Russian Anastasia Myskina beat Eleni Daniilidou of Greece to take the Women's
title at the Brasil Open.
The third seed claimed the 650,000 US dollars first prize, and her second
career title after winning in Palermo in 1999.
After winning the first set 6-3, the 21-year-old from Moscow was hit by a
stunning comeback by Daniilidou, who level the match 0-6.
But Myskina put the disastrous second set behind her, taking the decider 6-2.
Myskina, who was ranked 15th in the world heading into this week's event, was
participating in her third final of the year.
Daniilidou, who was seeded eighth, can still look back on her week her with
great pride.
She upset fourth seed Patty Schnyder in the quarter-finals and ousted second
seed Monica Seles in the semis.
Daniilidou, who will turn 20 next Thursday, was seeking her second career
title on the WTA Tour, with the first coming at the Ordina Open in the
Netherlands back in June.
