Amelie Mauresmo seems to have discovered the
secret to success against Jennifer Capriati.
The seventh-seeded Mauresmo conquered the second-seeded Capriati 6-4 6-1
to capture the title at the Rogers AT&T Cup.
The Frenchwoman defeated Capriati for the second straight time after dropping
their previous three meetings.
Mauresmo also rolled to a straight-sets victory over the American last month
in the Wimbledon quarter-finals.
Mauresmo, who also took the Dubai hardcourt championship in February, picked
up her eighth career tour title on Sunday.
Mauresmo reached the 1999 Australian Open final before capturing her first
crown at the Bratislava event later that year.
She lifted the trophy at the 2000 Sydney tournament and added four more titles
to her resume a year ago.
The reigning Australian Open champion, Capriati was competing in her first
final since the NASDAQ 100 Open at Miami in early April.
When top seed and defending champion Serena Williams pulled out Tuesday with a
knee injury, Capriati became the favourite in this warm-up tournament for the US
Open.
But she finished as the runner-up here for the second straight year and the
third time time overall.
Capriati did win the title in 1991 as a 15-year-old.
