Fast-rising Swiss player
Marie-Gaianeh Mikaelian secured her first WTA Tour title today in Tashkent and
is fast earning herself a high-profile reputation while compatriot Martina
Hingis endures injury hell.
The Swiss 18-year-old justified her top seeding at the Tashkent Open by
defeating number two Tatiana Poutchek of Belarus 6-4 6-4 in the final.
Having moved into the world's top 50 for the first time last week, she will be
inked there now and is tipped for a big future.
Mikaelian reached the final of this Uzbekistan event last year and had the
advantage over world number 67 Poutchek who was contesting her first title match.
