Anna Smashnova became the newest recruit to
the WTA Tour's millionaire club by winning the UNIQA Grand Prix in Vienna.
In passing the million-dollar career earnings mark with prize-money of 27,000
US dollars (£18,900), she also rose to 17th in the WTA rankings and became the
highest ranked Israeli player in history.
she was a class above opponent Iroda Tulyaganova, the defending
champion, who chose not to play the Tashkent Open in her native Uzbekistan this
week.
After a difficult start, when she trailed 3-0, Smashnova hit top gear and ran
out a 6-4 6-1 winner.
This year has seen Smashnova soar from 88th in the world, with Sunday's title
her third of the year.
