Germany's Martina Muller captured her first WTA
Tour title with a 6-2 3-6 6-4 victory over Swiss qualifier Myriam
Casanova at the Budapest Open.
The 19-year-old won the battle of the unseeded teenagers having upset
top-seeded Martina Sucha on Friday to reach her first tour semi-final, where
she then ousted sixth seed Tatiana Poutchek.
Muller has played most of her tennis on the ITF circuit, where she won titles
at Meinerzhagen in 1999 and Bastad last season.
However she had lost four straight WTA matches heading into this event.
In defeat, the 16-year old Casanova can at least hold her head high having
eliminated Jelena Kostanic and Lubomira Bacheva from the tournament, not to
mention fourth seed Eleni Daniilidou in the semi-finals.
Casanova was playing her first WTA tournament after competing in the juniors
earlier this year.
