Magui Serna claimed her first-ever
WTA Tour title with a straight-sets victory over German qualifier Anca
Barna in the Estoril Open.
The fourth-seeded Spaniard swept to victory in the European tour's first
clay-court tournament of the season in 90 minutes, winning 6-4 6-2.
Left-hander Serna, a quarter-finalist at Wimbledon two years ago, reached the
final of the Porto Open two weeks ago but lost to Angeles Montolio.
The Las Palmas-born 23-year-old was delighted to have broken her duck on the
tour.
She said: "I'm very happy to have finally won my first title. It feels good to
be a winner!
"In the first set I was a bit nervous, I was the favourite so I was a bit tense.
But it got better in the second set.
"I'm sure it's going to help me, give me personal confidence to say 'I've got a
singles title"'
Barna said: "It's been a good week for me but today I was a bit tired.
"I played lots of matches so physically it was a tough match. But Magui played
better than last week in Porto.
"I played too short and gave her too many chances to come to the net. I'm trying
to reach the top 50 and this week will help me reach that goal."
