Picture Serena beat her sister Venus in the women's final.

DAY 12 COMMENTARY

2100 : So having beaten Venus in the singles final earlier in the day, Serena can now celebrate together with her sister on Centre Court as they successfully claim their fourth Wimbledon doubles title. The crowd are on their feet for both teams who contributed immensely to a thoroughly enjoyable final which was much closer than anyone expected. Join us tomorrow for live commentary of the men's singles final between Roger Federer and Andy Roddick.

2055 : Serena completes her magnificent day by holding her serve to bring more Wimbledon doubles glory for the Williams sisters! It's the volleying of Venus at the net which puts them 30-0 up although more plucky resistance from the Aussies brings the game level. Serena's awesome serving brings up championship point but she then blasts a forehand into the net to be hauled back to deuce. Stosur then falters at the net to give the Williams sisters another championship point and Serena fittingly thumps home an ace to finally gets the job done!

2051 : The Williams sisters are now serving for the match...

2050 : A powerful Serena return is too hard for Stosur to get back and the Williams sisters lead this game 15-30. However the Aussie bounces back with a great first serve to restore parity. The next serve lands in but Serena's thunderous return flashes past both opponents to bring up match point. Venus' attempt to win the title is foiled by the net and their opponents then dig deep to notch up the next two points and with it the game.

2045 : A fairly routine hold for Venus, who drops just one point on serve to move her team to within one game of doubles glory.

2040 : Stosur and Stubbs continue to dig in bravely against the formidable figures on the other side of the net but they are always vulnerable. Stubbs picks a bad time to double fault at 30-30 in this next game, giving the Williams sisters a break point - which Serena takes with both hands with a volley at the net. They now lead 4-3 and have a service game to come.

2036 : Poor old Stosur - she gets hit again but this time from a venomous volley from Serena! The Williams take the point and then go on to hold serve, levelling the scores at 3-3 in the second set.

2034 : Having held serve, Venus then benefits from a lucky net cord to bring the Williams sisters level at 30-30 but Stosur and Stubbs rally to take the next two points with ruthless volleys. They lead 3-2 in this second set.

2025 : With the scores level at 1-1 in the second set, Stubbs produces one of the shots of the championships - a drop shot through played through her legs - to put her team on the brink of a service hold. But the Williams sisters bounce back to earn a break point only Venus to drill a forehand effort long. Serena then smashes an unstoppable return past the Aussies to bring up another break point but it's cancelled out with a sublime winner from Stubbs. This is clearly the most eventful game of the match and it's made even more dramatic when Venus spurns another break point by drilling a return into the net. Stubbs is then unfortunate to see a shot hit her own playing partner but they keep digging in to earn another game point. This time they take their chance and boy that was a huge hold.

2010 : Venus pounces at the net to score the crucial winning point in the tie-break as the Williams sisters take it 7-4 - and you can't see a way back for Stosur and Stubbs now.

2002 : Venus does brilliantly at the net to help her team edge into a 15-30 lead and shortly after the Williams sisters earn themselves a break point. However Stosur and Stubbs battle back bravely, taking the game and forcing a tie-break.

1957 : The next three games go with serve and now it's the Williams sisters who have their noses in front at 6-5. The pressure is all on Stosur and Stubbs, who must serve to stay in the set.

1945 : The three-time Wimbledon doubles champions break back in emphatic fashion to love and now parity is restored at 4-4 in this opening set.

1942 : Both teams are settling into their rhythm but after four relatively comfortable service holds in succession, Stosur and Stubbs still hold a 4-3 lead with a break of serve.

1930 : It's obviously been a long day for Serena and in her first service game of the match - with the score level at 1-1 - she's broken comfortable, the decisive point coming when the singles champion hits long. So Stosur and Stubbs lead 2-1 with a service game still to come.

1920 : Australian pairing Stosur and Stubbs - the third seeds - won their opening three matches here in straight sets but were taken to a third against Kristina Barrois and Tathiana Garbin in the quarter-finals and by Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual in the semis. By contrast the Williams sisters have romped into the final, dropping just 21 games in their five previous matches. They even destroyed top seeds Cara Black and Liezel Huber 6-1 6-2 in their semi-final clash so are big favourites to retain their doubles crown this evening.

1915 : The Williams sisters are back out on court just hours after Serena's singles victory over Venus, and they now face Samantha Stosur and Rennae Stubbs in this evening's women's doubles final.

1902 : Nestor and Zimonjic receive their trophies in the Royal Box before proudly lifting them above their heads as they lap up a well-deserved standing ovation from a thoroughly thrilled crowd.

1858 : Nestor gets an outrageous slice of luck on the opening point of the game when a thunderous backhand volley smashes the top of the net cord before floating past his opponents and landing in! The score moves to 30-30 after a nervy double fault from Zimonjic but the giant Serbian recovers with two big first serves, including an ace to win the match! The deadly duo embrace as they retain their Wimbledon title before throwing anything they can get their hands on into the crowd!

1852 : The Bryan brothers hold serve with ease and it will now be down to Zimonjic to serve out for the match...

1848 : Two service holds follow and now Nestor and Zimonjic move into a 5-2 lead, just one game away from successfully defending their men's doubles crown.

1839 : Nerves of steel from Nestor and Zimonjic! The pressure was all on Nestor as he faced two break points at 15-40 but three fabulous first serves - including two aces - helped them move onto the advantage point. Moments later the game was over when the Bryan brothers found the net and the number two seeds now lead 3-0.

1833 : Nestor and Zimonjic have sealed the first break of serve of the match after two hours and 20 minutes! They are really pumped up for this and now lead 2-0 in the fourth set - can they finish the job?

1828 : Zimonjic lets out a huge roar as he hits the winner which gives his team four set points at 6-2 in the breaker and although the Bryan brothers are able to save one of these, they are just delaying the inevitable. Sure enough they hit long on the next point as Nestor and Zimonjic embrace to celebrate opening up a 2-1 set lead.

1820 : As we thought, another tie-break is needed to settle the third set with still neither team unable to break serve in what has become a compelling showdown. The rallies out on court are absolutely sensational and it's impossible to predict which way this is going.

1800 : Now it's Nestor and Zimonjic to grind out their first break points in the match but they're unable to capitalise as the Bryans manage to hold - it's now 4-3 in the third set. Both teams are serving so well and the Centre Court crowd will be surely expecting another tie-break.

1752 : After one hour and 38 minutes on court, we finally have the first break point of the match, with the Bryan brothers looking to move into a 3-1 lead in this third set. However Nestor and Zimonjic battle back to take the game and keep their hopes well and truly alive.

1737 : The Bryan brothers show off their "Bryan Bump" celebration having earned themselves three set points after winning a quite brilliant rally in another tie-break. At 6-3 down Nestor and Zimonjic can only find the net with their return so the match is now level at one set apiece.

1655 : Neither pairing drop serve as we head into a first set tie-break here on Centre Court in this men's doubles final. Having seen one set point saved by the Bryans, Nestor and Zimonjic then force the American's into an error at 8-7 up to snatch the opening set. The second seeds are clearly pumped up as they look to keep a grip on their title.

1615 : The brilliant Bryan twins reached today's doubles final without dropping a set, such has been their dominance, but they haven't won the title here since 2006. By contrast Nestor and Zimonjic only just crept into the final after a thrilling five-set triumph over James Blake and Mardy Fish, taking the fifth 10-8, but as defending champions it's sure to be a tough battle on court.

1555 : Of course Venus and Serena will contest the women's doubles final later on today but before then the Bryan brothers Bob and Mike will face Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic in what could be an epic men's doubles showdown. Of course we'll keep you updated on all the major acton from those games so stay tuned.

1550 : Serena now has her hands on the Venus Rosewater Dish for the first time since 2003 and after a brief acceptance speech both players now embarks on a lap of honour around Centre Court while also posing for plenty of photos.

1540 : This time Serena finally triumphs at the fourth attempt when forcing Venus into blasting a shot from the baseline into the net. The younger sister screams with delight and sinks to her knees as she clinches her third Wimbledon title thanks to this relatively comfortable 7-6 (7/3) 6-2 victory.

1539 : Venus saves again! She hammers down a smash at the net and although Serena gets a racquet on it, the ball drifts out of play. However the relief is shortlived as another error gives Serena another opportunity to win the Wimbledon title.

1538 : It looks all but over for Venus when she floats a limp shot over the net, but Serena fails to capitalise when hitting the net. Will she live to regret these missed opportunities. Venus slams down an ace to take the advantage point but during a tiring rally it's her turn to find the net and get brought back to deuce. Another error follows and Serena has a third championship point...

1535 : The defending champion saves it when Serena hits wide but she's in trouble once again when the younger sister comes through a terrific rally with a powerful forehand winner which gave a helpless Venus no chance...

1533 : Venus continues to make mistakes and the crowd sign with disappointment as she falls 0-30 down on serve. Although the defending champion rallies to win the next two points, another unforced error gifts her sister with match point...

1529 : It's not been a classic by any means but it could turn into one if Venus can embark on a stunning comeback. But at the moment that seems almost impossible as Serena cruises through another service hold to love without breaking sweat. Venus made a couple of glaring unforced errors in that game and isn't playing her shots with any kind of conviction. Her reign as champion here is surely coming to an end. Venus 2 Serena 5.

1525 : Venus is seemingly falling away before our eyes, making numerous errors to give Serenabreak point at 30-40, even though her sister hardly had to play a decent shot herself. Then a double fault concedes the game and Serena takes a giant stride towards glory. Venus 2 Serena 4.

1520 : You can honestly hear a pin drop inside Centre Court right now - there is no mood of excitement whatsoever as both sisters routinely hold serve. This time Serena drops a single point but no moments of brilliance to reflect upon. Venus 2 Serena 3.

1518 : It's a bit of a struggle but Venus manages to hold a long winded service game, despite dropping just one point. The crowd need some lifting too but classic rallies have been few and far between this afternoon. Venus 2 Serena 2.

1513 : Serena is simply too good on serve, and is hardly giving Venus a sniff. The older sister is looking increasingly frustrated and resigned when receiving and another tie-break looks nailed on. Venus 1 Serena 2.

1511 : Venus also holds with ease, dropping just one point, but there's certainly longer rallies during her service games and doesn't look anywhere near as convincing as her sister. Venus 1 Serena 1.

1508 : Serena picks up where she left off at the start of this second set with an easy hold to love and Venus is showing no sign of earning herself a break in this match. Venus 0 Serena 1.

1505 : During the next rally Venus finds herself sprinting to the net with great urgency after Serena's shot bobbled over the net cord but even though she manages to get there, her younger sisters sends a delightful lob back over her head and the set is over. Venus 6 Serena 7 (3/7).

1504 : Venus just about stays alive when a Hawkeye appeal goes her way after a Serena forehand was called long but she's still staring down the barrel of a gun at 3-6 down.

1502 : Serena's scintillating forehand winner from the baseline keeps low and swirls past a stretching Venus in the corner and her subsequent clenched fist is the first real sign of emotion from either player in this match. Having held her serve again, Serena then brings up set point at 6-2 up when some unanswerable tennis from the baseline results in another awesome winner which game Venus no chance.

1500 : The tie-break goes with serve early on but Serena makes the breakthrough on the fourth point when Venus finds the net from the baseline. The younger sister loses a Hawkeye appeal in the next point but holds a 3-2 lead with her two serves to come.

1456 : Venus attacks the net with intent and finishes off a lengthly rally with a pounding smash to go 15-0 in front. But Serena is just far too strong on serve and a couple of aces sets her on the right path to force a first set tie-break. Venus 6 Serena 6.

1452 : A delicate backhand volley at the net from Venus, displaying the perfect technique for such a shot, helps her win the first point in this game but then Serena comes out on top after a titanic baseline rally to restore parity at 15-15. The former two-time champion then hits a backhand wide to give the initiative back to Venus but more unforgiving baseline battering in the next rally is simply too much for her sister to cope with and it's now 30-30. Venus produces a strong first-serve just when she needed it most to go 40-30 but then hits long to concede deuce. Both Serena and Venus then take turns to error but the latter has another chance to finish off the game when her sister puts her return wide. Sure enough a powerful serve is too hard for Serena to get back over the net but it was an awkward hold which if anything will boost the younger sister's confidence. Venus 6 Serena 5.

1446 : Serena ruthlessly moves in for the kill at the net to move 15-0 ahead on serve before Venus finds the net from the baseline to fall further behind. The defending champion then benefits from a luckynet cord to get the score back to 30-15 but loses out to Serena's awesome power in the next rally. Serena then smashes a stunning winner down the line to level the set score and surely a tie-break is looming. Venus 5 Serena 5.

1442 : Having fallen 15-0 down, Serena fights so hard to stay in the next rally as Venus sends her from one side to the other. Eventually Venus is just about able to kill the ball dead with a firm forehand at the net despite Serena spirited attempt to get there in time. From there Venus has few problems notching up the game and now the younger sister must serve to stay in the set. Venus 5 Serena 4.

1438 : Poor movement and positioning from Serena puts herself in real trouble as she falls 0-30 down after a couple of errors. An ace cuts the deficit but then another mistake gives Venus two crucial break points. The older sister spurns the first with a mis-hit return and in the next rally she fails to capitalise on a stranded Serena by drilling the ball long from the baseline with virtually the whole court to aim at. Serena then rattles off two aces on the bounce to take the game and level the set score. Venus 4 Serena 4.

1434 : Serena now attempts to find an extra gear against the Venus serve and after a brutal rally moves 0-15 up. However the older sister battles back in supreme fashion, picking up the next four points on the bounce - including a fierce ace - to re-exert her authority. Venus 4 Serena 3.

1431 : Serena has only dropped one point on serve so far and holds to love once again to ensure this set is level at 3-3. At this rate we're heading to a tie-break in no time at all as neither player has come even remotely close to a break. Venus 3 Serena 3.

1430 : There's hardly a cloud in the sky right now, with this final being played in beautiful sunshine. We're still awaiting some genuine drama on Centre Court but there's plenty of time for that to change as the sisters leave their chairs for another game...

1428 : The crowd aren't really getting into this contest just yet, but they're brought alive momentarily when a speedy Venus scampers towards the net before drilling a low backhand past Serena to go 15-0 up. None of the following rallies reach quite the same standard, with Venus holding serve with the loss of just one point. Venus 3 Serena 2.

1423 : This game opens up with easily the best rally of the match so far and it goes the way of Serena - both players sent each other around the court before the younger sister finally killed it off with a winner down the line from the baseline, leaving Venus stranded at the net. Serena then easily picks up the next two points to go 40-0 up and despite an error giving her sister a glimmer of hope, she then hammers down an ace to level the scores. Venus 2 Serena 2.

1419 : Despite those early jitters in the opener, Venus produces a commanding service game this time, winning it to love and therefore keeping her nose in front. Venus 2 Serena 1.

1417 : Serena is now up and running with a very comfortable hold to love and she'll certainly need to remain this confident on serve if she's to push her sister all the way. Venus 1 Serena 1.

1415 : Venus, serving first, opens this final up with a double fault but quickly bounces back with an unstoppable forehand winner from the baseline to settle the early nerves. The next two points are shared before a Serena return flies way out of play, bringing up game point for her sister. Venus then wraps it up when Serena hits long and although it's a rather low-key start both players are just finding their rhythm. Venus 1 Serena 0.

1400 : The crowd welcome the Williams sisters out on Centre Court with a warm round of applause and after the coin toss - which Venus wins - the deadly duo now embark ontheir customary pre-match warm-up. The conditions are ideal once again with a predominantly blue sky with a gentle breeze to keep the players refreshed during what we hope will be a sizzling three-set thriller.

1355 : Just watching an interview with Serena Williams and she says one day she would like to play some kind of super hero in a film! There's no doubt she'll have to utilise her special powers to beat her older sister today and become Wimbledon champion for the third time in her career - only then she can concentrate on a career in the movies!

1330 : Well I think that's just about all you need to know heading into this final so now just sit back, relax and wait for the action to commence! The players are due out on court at 1400 BST...

1325 : Serena played without doubt the most thrilling match of the women's tournament so far when ousting the plucky challenge of Elena Dementieva 6-7 7-5 8-6 in what was also the longest recorded semi-final. By huge contrast Venus only took a mere 51 minutes to surge to a 6-1 6-0 triumph over world number one Dinara Safina, who looked so far out of her depth against the five-time champion. Prior to her struggle in last four, Serena, who is bidding today for her 11th Grand Slam title, hadn't dropped a set as Neuza Silva, Jarmila Groth, Roberta Vinci, Daniela Hantuchova and Victoria Azarenk all fell by the wayside winning just 25 games between them. But Venus was even more ruthless, blitzing past Stefanie Voegele, Kateryna Bondarenko, Carla Suarez Navarro, Ana Ivanovic and Agnieszka Radwanska, dropping just 19 games in the process.

1320 : On current form it is hard to see past a Venus victory today. Indeed such is her formidable domination at SW19, she is yet to even drop a set here since the third round two years ago - unbelievable or what? Let's now have a look back at how they both plotted their route to this afternoon's final on Centre Court...

1300 : Only twice since Venus won her first Wimbledon crown in 2000 has anyone other than a Williams sister actually prevailed at SW19 so it's no surprise whatsoever to see the pair contest the final yet again. This is the fourth all-Williams Wimbledon final and defending champion Venus, who has seven Grand Slam titles to her name, will no doubt be looking to even up the head-to-head record in these showdowns at 2-2. Serena won the title in 2002 and 2003 against her older sister but last year's SW19 final between the pair ended in a 7-5 6-4 victory for Venus. It's interesting to note that the overerall head-to-head in all competitions dating back to 1998 stands at 10 wins each, with the last six meetings sicne their quarter-final clash at the 2008 US Open being split equally at 3-3. So historically there's not much to seperate the dangerous duo, who will also contest the women's doubles final later today! Who do you think will win this afternoon - Venus or Serena? Let me know by emailing me at christopher.hammer@bskyb.com.

1230 : Welcome to Saturday's live commentary from Wimbledon, where the women's singles final between the awesome Williams sisters takes centre stage. While Venus starts as the favourite to claim her sixth title here at SW19 - and third on the trot - she certainly won't be taking anything for granted against a hungry Serena, who is desperate to get her hands on the prized Venus Rosewater Dish for the first time since 2003. Join us later for a full preview of the final before the action finally gets under way at 1400 BST.
