VERDICT
Schiavone helped Italy lift the Fed Cup in 2006, but she has yet to win a WTA Tour singles title. That's despite eight final appearances, three of which came last season. She slid down the rankings this year, failing to win three successive matches in 2007. Should feel at home here - she is based in London - but grass isn't a surface Schiavone favours and she has only once gone past the second round, so it's easy to see her becoming an early seeded casualty.
