VERDICT
The German was ranked as high as number two in the world back in 2002 before shoulder surgery was required. He's since been back into the top 10 with a string of fine displays - particularly on the hardcourts - but that shoulder problem has returned of late, forcing him out of the recent French Open. Has won in Memphis and reached the semis at the Australian Open this year, but with virtually no preparation, it's hard to see the German number one doing anything of note here.
