french success in men's doubles
Clement and Llodra - champions.
Twins Bob and Mike Bryan lost their Wimbledon men's doubles title to Grand Slam debutants Arnaud Clement and Michael Llodra, of France.
Clement and Llodra, the 10th seeds, lost the first set on a tie-break but came back to win 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-4 6-4 and become the first French men's doubles champions at the All England Club for 74 years.
The top-seeded Americans, appearing in their third successive Wimbledon final, were involved in controversy at the end of the third game of the second set when umpire Lars Graff ruled that Bob Bryan had touched the net on break point.
"You know they are replaying it right now on TV and you're looking really stupid," he told the official.
The surprise result capped a splendid Wimbledon for France, who had Marion Bartoli in the final of the women's singles and Richard Gasquet in the last four of the men's event.
Amid wild celebrations, the French pair threw all their rackets into the crowd while Llodra had to borrow a shirt from Clement's brother Bruno for the presentation.
"I have to play next week a tournament in Newport and I have no more racquets now," revealed Llodra. "I don't know what I am doing now."
