Ana Ivanovic, the sixth seed who held off the challenge of Nadia Petrova to reach the quarter-finals, wishes her reactions had been as good off the court.

The teenager from Belgrade attended the Concert for Diana at Wembley with fellow Serbian Novak Djokovic on their day off at the weekend and was delighted to bump into actor Kiefer Sunderland.

Ivanovic is a big fan of television programme '24' and especially its star attraction.

"I wanted to have a picture with him but we were going in different directions," she bemoaned. "I will have to have a quicker reaction next time."

The poor soul charged with making the increasingly desperate weather announcements from the referee's office had some startling advice yesterday evening.

Unfortunate spectators caught up in a torrential downpour were advised to put their umbrellas down, rather than up.

But this was purely for their own safety as thunder and spectacular fork lightning crashed around the All England Club, the announcer correctly pointing out that metal-tipped umbrellas and lightning do not mix too well.

Surprise quarter-finalist Juan Carlos Ferrero admitted he was disappointed to see David Beckham leave Spain recently.

Speaking after his fourth round win over Serbian Janko Tipsarevic, the Real Madrid fan said: "Of course I was sad to see him go.

"I think he's a nice guy and he played amazing at the end (of the season)."

Ferrero attended the final game of the La Liga season, along with fellow fan Rafael Nadal, when Madrid came from a goal down to beat Real Mallorca 3-1 and pip Barcelona to the title by virtue of a superior head-to-head record between the fierce rivals.

Jelena Jankovic has been the busiest player on the women's tour over the last 12 months - and she has clearly not been able to keep up with the news.

Speaking after her defeat to France's Marion Bartoli, the number three seed came up with the brainwave that Centre Court needs a roof.

None of the assembled press at the press conference wanted to add insult to injury on a bad day for the Serbian by pointing out that there will be one next year.
