tuesday clockwatch

1928: That's the lot. Play has been officially called off. Everyone back tomorrow for more fun and games in the rain.

1925: The hardy souls on Court One have headed up the stands to take cover under the roof as it's still raining. Pity those on Centre - they don't have that option. Into the bowels for them.

1905: Play on the outside courts has been suspended for the day with the exception, it seems, of Two and Three. That's Djokovic and Kiefer, and Sharapova and Williams. Those are matches the organisers are desperate to get completed.

1855 Nadal and Soderling have already played two days in a row, albeit briefly. The winner faces a last-16 match tomorrow (against Mikhail Youzhny), a quarter-final on Thursday and a semi on Friday. Of course, that's if they finish off tonight! At present the tent is still up on Court One, so no sign of them returning just yet.

1850: Lleyton Hewitt won earlier today and his post-match comments show just what a week it's been weather-wise. "That's the longest and toughest rain-delayed match I've ever had to put up with," he said. "We had to go on and off so many times it was a mental battle more than anything. You couldn't get down on yourself at all or get worried about the situation because it was the same for everyone." But he also had a warning for those who have been maoning about the situation - both David Nalbandian and Rafael Nadal have expressed their displeasure in recent days. "This is how you win majors," added Hewitt. "It's not getting frustrated with the situation. Whatever hand you're dealt, you've got to deal with it and keep positive."

1837: Play didn't restart on the outside courts before the rain arrived. It's coming down quite heavily and again the sky is a not very pleasant shade of grey.

1835: A reminder - Nadal and Soderling are level at 4-4 in their final set, so that match is now effectively a two-game shoot-out. A couple of poor points upon the resumption and it could be all over for someone. On Centre, Roddick is about to serve for a two-set lead at 6-5.

1833: Aaaaarggh! Play is suspended again. Would you believe it. I bet Nadal and Soderling can't.

1832: Roddick strikes against Mathieu and now leads 6-5 and will surely serve out for a two-set lead.

1831: Nadal misses a relatively-easy forehand on the first point and Soderling goes on to hold to love. 4-4.

1829: Prepared to rally forever from the baseline, Nadal eventually draws a mistake from Soderling to move to advantage. Soderling then nets and it's Nadal ahead 4-3. That is a simply massive hold from the second seed. All the pressure is back on the Swede now.

1827: Nerveless Nadal pulls it back to deuce. Meanwhile, Roddick levels at 5-5 against Mathieu.

1826: A poor drop shot from Nadal is into the net and it's 15-40. Huge points here.

1823: The Swede holds to 15, sealing the game with an ace. 3-3 and Nadal to serve - always an advantage in a final set. Mathieu holds for 5-4 against Roddick. Pressure time in the second set on Centre.

1821: Soderling, serving at 2-3 final set, gets us back under way on Court One.

1820: Two booming serves see Roddick hold from 30-30. It's hard to see him getting broken at present with his first-serve percentage still very high.

1819: Roddick restarts with an ace, serving at 3-4 against Mathieu. The American is a set up.

1818: The clock shows Nadal and Soderling have played three hours and 31 minutes so far. Remember they actaully came on to warm up on Saturday afternoon, started for real yesterday morning and are now back for more. Let's hope they can finish off tonight.

1813: Roddick and Mathieu are back out and warming up on Centre. Ditto Nadal and Soderling on One.

1807: We're just having a chat in the office here about the backlog of matches. Worst off is Novak Djokoivc. He's still got at least two sets to play in his third-round clash with Nicolas Kiefer and that will be the match caused officials most concern. They really need to get that done tonight. At least Nadal-Soderling - also a last-32 match - is into the final set so will surely finsih off pretty soon once play restarts. All the women's fourth-round matches are done now, barring Sharapova-Williams which is now out on Court Three. They could resume pretty soon as the net is going up.

1800: With the rain having stopped, some of the covers are being removed. Hooray!

1748: Juan Carlos Ferrero is into his first Wimbledon quarter-final - but now faces Roger Federer tomorrow. At least he's talking a good game. "I don't have to think that tomorrow is going to be my last match of the tournament," he says. "I know it will be difficult because he has a good record here, but I have nothing to lose tomorrow so I will try my best. I am playing well and he is human, so I'm confident." Best of luck Juan, you're going to need it.

1745: The covers remain on in SW19 which gives us a chance to see what today's winners and losers have been saying. The biggest casualty today was defending champion Amelie Mauresmo. She said: "Everything went wrong today. My serve was definitely not working really well today. I think I had some up and downs throughout the first week and it showed a little bit more today when you play a better opponent and when it's a little tighter in terms of score." She missed several months earlier this season after having her appendix removed and admitted: "I'm struggling to get the confidence back. That's probably an explanation for what I produced in terms of tennis today. The interruptions didn't help but it was the same for her."

1735: The thunder and lightning seems to be moving on now. Hopefully a clearer spell is coming into view.

1725: With rain causing more havoc and little sign of any play, why not check out our video section? We've already got Amelie Mauresmo's post-match interview while there are highlights from previous matches.

1715: Sure enough it's now hammering it down and the people on the roofless Centre Court are scurrying for cover.

1713: A chance to tell you what's happening in the matches which have just been suspended. Nadal is 3-2 up in the final set against Soderling, but the set is back on serve now. Mathieu has just staved off break points to hold for 4-3 in the second set against Roddick. The American took the first. Kiefer and Djokovic never started the third set - it's all square. On Court Three, where Sharapova and Williams have been moved to, they have only played three points and Venus leads 30-15 on her own serve.

1710: Looking at the sky, this could mayy be it for the day. It's very dark and it's about to lash it down by the looks of things.

1708: Rain and the covers the coming on again. The predicted thunder can be heard in the distance.

1707: A brilliant stretch half-volley from Nadal just makes it over the net and allows he to move 3-2 ahead. Still on serve though.

1705: It's 3-3 in the second set between Mathieu and Roddick. A better effort in this set from the Frenchman who lost the first 6-2.

1704: Soderling held to love to level at 2-2. Rain is threatening again. Ground staff are poised.

1703: Kiefer is back on level terms with Djokovic! He wins the tie-break 8-6 having been 6-3 down. That's massive from the German who has only just returned after a year out withh a wrist injury - Andy Murray beware. He surely wouldn't have come back from two sets down. Now the fourth seed has a fight on his hands.

1702: Davydenko completes an impressive win. 6-3 7-5 6-3 the Russian wins against Gael Monfils and he will now play Marcos Baghdatis in the fourth round.

1701: Kiefer has saved all three break points and it's now 6-6 in the breaker.

1700: Well, well. Soderling wins the first two points upon the resumption to break back and the final set against Nadal is back on serve at 1-2. That missed match point - which came in the third set yesterday - may well start playing on Nadal's mind again now. It's been a day of shocks so far. Will this be another one?

1659: On Centre Roddick has just made it 2-2 in the second set.

1658: Davydenko is about to serve for the match against Monfils. 5-3 in the third. Set point to Djokovic - three of them - on Court Two.

1656: No signs of play being stopped as yet but it is certainly raining.

1655: Djokovic and Kiefer are playing a tie-break in the second set. First set Djokovic yesterday.

1654: Rain is falling again!

1653: All over on Court 18 and Hewitt is through to meet either Novak Djokovic or Nicolas Kiefer in the last 16. Incidentally they have just resumed on Court Two.

1650: The sky is a very strange colour. Bright in places it's a menacing dark colour over towards the famous St Mary's church at the top of the hill.

1647: Roddick serves out the first set 6-2. He's serving at 78 per cent first serves which is some going. Mathieu doesn't have much chance if it stays that high. Meanwhile, Hewitt is about to serve for the match against Canas. 5-4 he leads.

1645: Next up on Court One is Rafael Nadal. Remember the second seed is still stuck in round three and was embroiled in a real fight with Robin Soderling when play was halted last night. He's already missed match point and play will resume with Nadal leading 2-0 and serving in the final set.

1644: Nikolay Davydenko is finally back on court to finish his match with Gael Monfils. He shouldn't be long. He leads by two sets and 4-1 now in the third.

1643: Roddick breaks again and is running away with things on Centre.

1642: Out on Court 18, Hewitt lets out his trademark 'come on' scream as he breaks to lead 4-3 against Canas in the fourth set. He's just two games away from the last 16.

1639: And it's all over. Bartoli completes a memorable win and third seed Jankovic is out. The Frenchwoman, who is enjoying a fine season, managed to fend off a hip problem and wrapped up a fully deserved 3-6 7-5 6-3.

1638: Bartoli is at match point after Jankovic sends a shot wide - Hawk-eye can't save her.

1637: Bartoli moves to 0-30 on the Jankovic serve. Not a great lob from the Frenchwoman but Jankovic's backhand smash is into the net.

1636: Bartoli staves off a total of four break points and moves 5-3 ahead - just a game away from knocking out the third seed Jankovic. Roddick breaks to 30 and leads 3-2.

1635: The first break points of the match on Centre as Mathieu falls 15-40 down with a string of unforced errors.

1633: Roddick levels at 2-2. Jankovic is wasting break points aplenty as she bids to make it 4-4 on Court One.

1632: Ivanovic wraps up victory over Petrova. She takes the final set 6-4 and goes through to face Nicole Vaidisova in the last eight.

1630: We've just heard that the match of the day - Maria Sharapova and Venus Williams will now take place on Court Three! They had been due last on Centre but with Roddick and Mathieu having only just started it's been switched. Only a few hundred people will be able to see that one - but what a bonus for them.

1626: Mathieu makes it 2-1 on Centre. They are just warming up on the outside courts where Ana Ivanovic is about to serve for the match against Nadia Petrova.

1625: The breaks continue to flow on Court One - Bartoli is now two games from victory at 4-3. Jankovic's forehand was wild in that game.

1624: Roddick gets his big serve going straight away - two aces, including one at 130mph see him hold to 15. 1-1. The games could go by pretty quickly in this one.

1623: Bartoli holds for 3-3 as the match on Court One resumes. That's only the 12th service hold - there have been 15 breaks!

1620: Mathieu holds to 30 in the opening game under skies which are far from clear. Oh well, at least we have some play.

1617: Roddick and Mathieu are under way on Centre.

1605: Covers are now off.

1554: Messrs Davydenko, Djokovic and Nadal have yet to set foot on court today and are still stuck in the third round, while the likes of Federer and Ferrero are already through to the quarter-finals. They will be desperate for the rain to stop and get through today. If they don't, the organisers really are struggling to get this tournament completed on time.

1547: If they do come back, Andy Roddick is due next on Centre against Paul-Henri Mathieu. Anyone who was here yesterday should know we fancy Mathieu to give A-Rod a decent test today. The Frenchman is enjoying the best grasscourt campaign of his life this year and is in the fourth round for the first time. Roddick has yet to drop a set but hasn't looked at his best. That was also the case at Queen's and Mathieu may well cause him problems today, especially given he won their only previous meeting.

1543: Covers are being deflated and we could have play again soon.

1526: As the rain continues to fall, Svetlena Kuznetsova has just left the press conference room and she's clearly happy with her game after moving into the quarter-finals today by seeing off youngster Tamira Paszek. "I am playing the best I have ever played in this tournament," she said. "It felt pretty comfortable (today) and every round my performance grows. I was expecting a tougher match but it didn't happen." Things are about to get tougher though - she plays either Venus Williams or Maria Sharapova next.

1510: The covers are still on and looking at the grey skies this may be the heavy rain that was forecast.

1500: A brief round-up from elsewhere. Bartoli was 30-15 up on her serve and down 2-3 in games in the final set against Jankovic when the rain intervened. Hewitt was two sets to one up on Canas with the fourth-set score at 2-2.

1456: That's it on Court Two. It was at 15-15 when the rain finally became too heavy. The covers are on all around the grounds now.

1454: Ivanovic is about to serve for the match at 5-4 against Petrova but it looks as if the Russian doesn't want to continue due to the rain. On they go though.

1453: A poor return into the net brings up match point. And another into the net means it's all over. The defending champion Amelie Mauresmo is out, beaten 7-6 4-6 6-1 by Nicole Vaidisova.

1452: Mauresmo smashes for 15-15 but then goes well wide with a return. Vaidisova is just two points away. Rain is falling.

1451: Mauresmo picks up a ball abuse warning for smashing a ball out ofthe Centre Court. She's so angry with herself and looks to be on her way out. 15-0.

1450: A familiar tale for Mauresmo - another double and another break point. A disastrous drop shot follows and at 5-1 the game looks up for last year's winner. Vaidisova will serve for the match.

1449: Jankovic leads 3-2 but doesn't seem happy with her error-strewn game. She's looking up towards her box but it's her that has to find a way past Bartoli, not her team.

1448: News of that doubles match we mentioned earlier and it's not good. The British pair of Curran and Auckland have lost 7-5 6-2 to Chuang and Perry.

1447: Ferrero takes the tie-break 7-5 to wrap up a 7-5 6-3 7-6 victory over Tipsarevic. He will now face top seed Roger Federer in the last eight tomorrow.

1446: Another long forehand from the champion give Vaidisova a 4-1 lead. We're getting close to a shock but the clouds are looking menacing and could come to her rescue.

1445: Mauresmo lets out a shout of anger as she sends two shots over the far baseline. Meanwhile Bartoli holds for 2-2 against Jankovic after saving break point in a lengthy game.

1443: Petrova staves off break point and holds for a 4-3 lead against Ivanovic. It's getting to crunch time out on Court Two.

1442: A nerveless volley brings it back to deuce and Mauresmo manages to hold. That was much needed.

1441: Third-set tie-break for Ferrero and Tipsarevic. The Serb needs to win it to stay alive in the match. Meanwhile a 12th double fault sees Mauresmo fall 30-40 down.

1439: Mauresmo 0-30. She needs to find something from her reserves and quick.

1438: Cliff Richard is here today - in a striking light-blue suit and All England Club tie. Will he be singing again later? The clouds are gathering again...

1436: Hewitt has just opened a two-sets-to-one lead against Canas out on Court 18. He's just sealed the third set 6-3.

1435: A rare solid service game from Jankovic pushes her 2-1 up. Meanwhile, Vaidisova survives from 15-30 and now leads 3-0. Mauresmo simply must hold here.

1433: Ivanovic hits back against Petrova and is about to serve at 2-3.

1432: Bartoli immediately loses serve and it's back to 1-1 against Jankovic.

1431: Vaidisova has early control of the third set, breaking for 2-0. Mauresmo is not playing well and is in trouble here. Is her title slipping away? It seems so at present.

1429: Tipsarevic has got the break back against Ferrero in their third set and it's back on serve. Canas takes his break point against Hewitt and they are also back on serve in their third set.

1428: Bartoli makes it third time lucky and leads 1-0 with an early break in the decider. On Centre, Vaidisova manages to hold for 1-0.

1427: Two saved by Jankovic. Out on Court Two, Petrova has broken Ivanovic and leads 3-1 in the final set of their last-16 clash.

1426: Three break points to Bartoli in the opening game on Court One. Jankovic is in trouble.

1425: Chip and charge tactics bring Mauresmo to deuce on the Vaidisova serve.

1422: Another double fault - her 11th - suggests nerves, but an ace followed but another unreturnable sees Mauresmo home from 30-30. One set all and we're into a decider.

1420: Mauresmo steps up to serve out the second set and level her match with Vaidisova at one set all.

1417: Players are returning to the courts around the grounds.

1410: The net is quickly up on Court One. Just awaiting the players now.

1406: Better news. The covers are coming down and we could have play soonerthan we though.

1400: So much for that supposed dry spell! The covers remain firmly on. Looking back at yesterday's play and that amazing match involving Serena Williams. The American is due to play Justine Henin tomorrow and insists she will definitely be fit to play after suffering cramps in her calf against Daniela Hantuchova.

1345: Bad news - the tent has gone up to get air to the court. That means a longer delay than last time.

1335: They didn't even get started again on the outside courts, so nothing more to report from the matches out there.

1333: On Court One, Bartoli has held and levelled the match at one set all just before the suspension. That was a better game from the Frenchwoman who had looked nervous in her previous attempts to serve it out. Jankovic has work to do when they return.

1332: Another love game to Vaidisova - that's 12 straight points on serve since the delay. 5-4 to Mauresmo but she won't get the chance to serve it out. Rain is back!

1331: The breaks seems to have given Jankovic the chance to clean that eye out. However, she has problems of a different variety now. It's 30-15 as Bartoli serves for the set.

1330: Better serving from Mauresmo. A ninth ace takes her to 40-0 and then a netted return gives her a 5-3 lead in the second set. Can she level the match up here?

1328: On Court One, Jankovic resumes 0-40 down and Bartoli polishes off the game to 15. She will serve for the set at 6-5 for the third time.

1327: An easy hold by Vaidisova to love. It doesn't look like the enforced break has bothered her.

1325: Vaidisova gets us back under way, serving at 2-4.

1322: It's predicted that there will be around an hour's worth of dry weather. But thunder and lightning are expected later!

1320: The players are back out on the show courts.

1313: It's another short shower - the covers are coming off already.

1310: Some interesting doubles news from a British point of view. Claire Curran and James Auckland are 7-5 3-1 down in the mixed against 12th seeds Todd Perry and Chia-Jung Chuang.

1308: On the outside courts, Petrova is 2-1 up in the final set against Ivanovic but it remains on serve. Ferrero has just broken for 4-3 in the third set against Tipsarevic and is now just two games from victory. The Hewitt-Canas match is 4-2 to the Aussie in the third set but Canas held break point when play was suspended.

1305: Court One has stopped. It's 0-40 on the Jankovic serve as play is suspended. They're done, for now, on Centre too.

1304: Two points later and Mauresmo has opened up a 4-2 lead. It's raining now though.

1303: Mauresmo serves double fault number 10 which brings up break point but that's followed by a superb service winner. Deuce.

1301: Bartoli falls break point down and then sends a shot long. It's back to 5-5 and the Frenchwoman appears to be limping. It's either her hip or her pride.

1300: Jankovic gets lucky with a net cord which falls on Bartoli's side of the net. It's 30-30 instead of 40-15 and set point.

1259: Out on Court 18, Lleyton Hewitt is back out against Guillermo Canas. It was a set all overnight.

1258: Vaidisova makes a hash of a backhand to hand Mauresmo two break points. The first is saved with a crunching forehand winner, but the Frenchwoman takes the second to break for a 3-2 lead.

1256: A convincing hold from Jankovic makes it 5-4 but Bartoli now has a second chance to square the match at one set all.

1255: On Centre Mauresmo holds for 2-2. It's tight stuff there at the moment.1253: Bartoli fails to serve out the set and it's now 3-5.

1250: Petrova wins the second set 6-2 against Ivanovic and they are into a decider on Court Two.

1247: Bartoli breaks again with a clever drop shot clinching a 5-2 lead. A final set beckons.

1245: Ferrero has taken the second set against Tipsarevic 6-3 and now leads by two sets to love. Petrova has broken Ivanovic again and leads their second set 5-2.

1244: On Centre, Mauresmo has just held in a marathon game which featured numerous deuces. 1-1 in the second set. She's in a real fight here.

1243: Bartoli lead 4-2 now on Court One where Jankovic is still blinking a lot trying to sort that eye out. She's in a spot of bother.

1239: Ivanovic has the break back in the second set against Petrova. 2-3.

1238: Naomi Cavaday was won her first round girls' singles clash 6-2 6-1. A good start for the rising British player.

1236: Kuznetsova is our first winner of the day - 6-3 6-2 against Paszek, whose impressive run in finally over. She's one for the future, but in the present Kuznetsova moves through to the last eight where she will play either Venus Williams or Maria Sharapova. They play later.

1235: Jankovic put some drops in her eye - she seemed to have something in it - but she's playing again now.

1234: Kuznetsova is now serving for the match against Paszek.

1232: Outside, Ferrero now leads 3-0 in the second set. He looks in control. Ivanovic is 3-0 down in the second set to Petrova - that could be heading to a decider - but Kuznetsova is just two games from victory against Paszek. It's now 4-2 in the second set.

1231: Excellent defence from Mauresmo gets her back in the point but she then sends a forehand just wide. A Hawk-eye challenge is unsuccessful and the defending champion is a set down.

1230: Mauresmo sends a moon ball long and at 7-6, Vaidisova now has set point.

1229: It's back to 6-6 in the tie-break. Mauresmo sends a volley wide after a good body return from Vaidisova.

1228: Vaidisova saves two set points on her own serve. Meanwhile over on Court One, Jankovic has a problem with her left eye and has called for the trainer.

1227: Mauresmo smashes a winner and Vaidisova lets out a scream of anger. 5-3 becomes 6-3 when Vaidisova nets a return. Three set points to the champion.

1226: Excellent drop shot from Vaidisova makes it 4-3.

1225: It looks like there's still life in Bartoli - she's just broken Jankovic to lead 2-1 in the second set. First set to the Serb.

1224: It's 4-2 at the change of ends, Mauresmo a min-break up. It's still scrappy though.

1222: Mauresmo leads the breaker 3-0 after two errors from Vaidisova - one shot pushed long, another buried into the net.

1221: It's 1-1 in the second set between Jankovic and Bartoli.

1220: A rare love game from the Czech and it's a tie-break. For those of you who don't know much about Vaidisova, she's a rising star on the women's tour. She won her first tour title at just 15 (becoming the sixth youngest winner ever) and earlier this year made the semi-finals of the Australian Open. She's still only 18. Can she take this first set?

1217: Mauresmo manages to hold to 30 despite another poor line call which forced to to play a let on a point she looked to have won fair and square. 6-5 and Vaidisova must hold to force a tie-break.

1215: Svetlana Kuznetsova has an early break in the second set of her match against Tamira Paszek. Meanwhile, Juan Carlos Ferrero has taken the first set against Janko Tipsarevic 7-5.1213: But some big hitting from Vaidisova sees her win the next four points - a forehand winner bang on the line moving the scoreboard on to 5-5. This is anyone's set now.

1211: A brilliant passing shot cross-court from Mauresmo takes her to 0-30.

1208: The number of service breaks is the feature of the day so far on the show courts. There's another - Mauresmo is broken to 15 as Vaidisova stays in the first set. She'll now serve at 4-5.

1207: Jankovic misses two set points before giving Bartoli the runaround to bring up another chance. A long backhand gives Jankovic the set 6-3. She's been the better player but the serving hasn't been of the highest calibre.

1204: Another break - the fifth in eight game - on Centre. It's now 5-3 to Mauresmo. Can she serve it out? Recent history suggests she won't.

1201: Bartoli wins the first point upon the return on Court One to reduce the deficit to 3-5.

1200: Vaidisova and Mauresmo return and immediately the Czech breaks back and it's now 3-4. This is a real see-saw affair at present.

1156: Jankovic and Bartoli are back on on Court One to warm up.

1150: It was a brief shower and the covers are coming off. The referee will inspect the courts, but it's hoped play will start "as soon as possible".

1147: In the junior event, Britain's Naomi Cavaday is back in action. Remember she only just failed to cause a stunning upset in the senior tournament last week when she missed two match points before losing to Martina Hingis. Today things are going well - she was serving for the set at 5-2 when rain halted her first-round clash with Croatia's Jasmina Tinjic.

1145: This gives us a chance to round-up what's happened so far. Mauresmo leads Vaidisova 4-2 on Centre, while over on Court One Jankovic is 5-2 up but is facing break point against Bartoli. On the outside courts, Ana Ivanovic has taken the first set 6-1 against Nadia Petrova, while Svetlana Kuznetsova is a set to the good against Tamira Paszek - 6-3 the score. In the only men's match taking place at present, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Janko Tipsarevic are all square at 5-5.

1141:

1140: Mauresmo puts away a smash to break and make it 4-2 before play is suspended.

1139: A complete mis-hit from Vaidisova - actually she only just connected with the ball - brings up break point. Rain is now falling.

1136: Jankovic breaks Bartoli's weak serve again. She'll serve for the set at 5-2. It's one back for the linespeople too - an awful Bartoli challenge was well out.

1135: Vaidisova saves break point with a well-played point, coming in to put away a forehand winner. Deuce.

1133: In the only men's match currently taking place, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Janko Tipsarevic are at 4-4 in the first set of their last-16 clash. The winner plays Roger Federer.

1132: On the outside courts, Ana Ivanovic has romped into a 5-0 lead against Nadia Petrova, while Kuznetsova is 5-2 up on Paszek.

1131: On Court One, Bartoli gets one break back to reduce the deficit to 2-4.

1130: Two more first serves in and Mauresmo holds for a 3-2 lead.

1129: More 'double trouble' from Mauresmo - two in the game - hand Vaidisova another break chance. A big serve saves it but the Frenchwoman needs to improve her delivery.

1126: Jankovic is running away with things on Court One. It's now 4-1 with a double break. That games ends with Bartoli in a state of disbelief. Her Hawk-eye challenge is incorrect and the ball was out. But you can't see daylight between the ball and the line until the camerazooms in. How close can you get? And how accurate is this system?

1123: Oh dear. An awful game from Vaidisova means she fails to convert the break. She's broken to love, Mauresmo clinching the game with another successful challenge. Not a good day so far from the linespeople!

1121: A chance here to tell you about some good news for British tennis. The ATP Masters Cup is coming to London in 2009. The end-of-season showpiece is being re-named, but all the top players will be heading to the O2 Arena.

1120: Mauresmo fights back from 0-30 only for a double fault to hand Vaidisova the first break point of the match. The Czech hits a return winner to take a 2-1 lead - but it's only confirmed after a successful Hawk-eye challenge from Vaidisova. She gives the linesperson a glare on her way back to the chair.

1118: Bartoli gets on the board on Court One - but she trails by a break at 2-1 against Jankovic. Outside, Svetlana Kuznetsova has an early 2-0 lead against 16-year-old Tamira Paszek.

1115: Mauresmo misses a simple volley as Vaidisova, despite a double fault in that game, holds to 30. 1-1

1112: Mauresmo holds to 15. A solid start from last year's winner.

1111: Jankovic breaks in the opening game against Bartoli. Perhaps it won't be too tough for the Serb today!

1109: The action is under way now on the show courts. We'll focus on Mauresmo-Vaidisova. The champion to serve.

1100: Players are warming up around the grounds. Rain is expected later but it looks as if we will get a decent period of play to start with.

1045: The real dish of the day has to be Maria Sharapova against Venus Williams - the ladies' fourth round match is scheduled third on Centre Court, after Andy Roddick v Paul-Henri Mathieu. As well as being a potential classic - their semi-final meeting in 2005 was of the highest quality - it also promises to be a real shriek-athon, Venus having taken the decibels to new levels yesterday.

1040: First up it's Amelie Mauresmo v Nicole Vaidisova on Centre - that should be a tough test for the defending champion who has looked impressive so far. Over on Court One, third seed Jelena Jankovic takes on the in-form Marion Bartoli. Jankovic hasn't been at her best so far so perhaps the Frenchwoman can cause her a few problems.

1035: Good news - a sunny morning in SW19 and hopefully we can start on time. It's an 1100 scheduled start today on all courts.
