1600 - Sharapova breaks back.
1857: That's it for the day. Play has officially been called off. No great surprise. Remember that the action will start again at 1100 BST on all courts on Monday. See you then.
1845: Amelie Mauresmo has now held her press confernece and has given herself eight out of 10 for her first-week performance. She beat Mara Santangelo 6-1 6-2 earlier and says: "The (women's) tournament is very open and has been for a few years now - not only here but in other countries. There are many good players around and I like to think I must improve a few things here and there but overall I played some really going-forward kind of tennis and that is what has been working well for me. I expect to have to do some more fighting in the next few rounds but I'm fine with that because most of my game is in good shape now. I'm about an eight out of 10 at the moment - but then again I'm a perfectionist."
1840: If there is no more play, it looks as if Centre Court spectators will go home slightly happier than those on Court One. Centre Court has seen just 57 minutes of play so far and rules state that if there is less than an hour's play then the ticket holders are eligible for a full refund. However, those on Court One saw 74 minutes of action in the Sharapova-Sugiyama match. Fans there will only be entitled to half their cash back.
1825: It's been announced that there will be no play before 1900 at the earliest. Hard to see much happening now.
1805: Maria Sharapova, a straight-sets winner over Ai Sugiyama earlier, says her shoulder injury is still troubling her. The problem has been an ongoing one for most of the season and requires daily treatment, including acupuncture. She said: "I have ice, massage, needlework, you name it, I do it," she told her post-match press conference. "A couple of hours a day." It didn't prevent her reaching the last 16 though and she will go into the second week very much among the title favourites.
1750: It's been announced by the referee's office that as a result of today's delays, play will start on all courts at 1100 BST on Monday. Still no final decision on today though.
1735: The rain is still falling and there's no sign of the covers coming off.
1645: The umbrellas are still up. No sign of an end to the rain at present.
1623: The 'tent' is up on Centre now and it's not a good sight. The forecast - which has been spot on so far today - had predicted that rain would set in at this stage, so we may well be done for the day. However, we live in hope and will keep you posted.
1621: In the only men's match to start, Tomas Berdych took the first set 6-4 against Hyung-Taik Lee and it's on serve in the second with the Korean leading 3-2.
1619: The expected rain gives us another chance to update the scores from the outside courts. Venus Williams is in a battle now. After winning the first set she's collapsed in the second and trailed by a double break at 1-4 when the rain arrived. Elena Dementieva is a set up against Tamira Paszek - it's 6-3 0-1 on Court Three. Svetlana Kuznetsova leads Radwanska - the juior champion here in 2005 - by a set and 4-3 with a break, so looks to closing in on round four. Ivanovic and Rezai are still in the first game of the second set, the Serb having won the first. Vaidisova leads Azarenka by a set annd a break - it's 3-2 in the second. It's a similar tale for Petrova who is a set and 3-1 up on Ruano Pascual.
1612: That's because the rain is too heavy now. The covers are going on around the All England Club. Over on Centre, Rafael Nadal and Robin Soderling had begun to warm up but they are now back in the locker room.
1611: As the rain continues to fall, Sharapova misses two match points before finally sealing a 6-3 6-3 victory with a crunching forehand. She'll be relieved. She can just go home and relax now. Others are going to be facing an anxious wait for the next few hours.
1609: Still spotting with rain in SW19. Sharapova moves to match point. She wants to get this done.
1605: Sharapova breaks again and has now won four straight games after raising her level following a sloppy start to the set. She'll serve for the match now.
1604: Ivanovic takes the first set against Rezai by six games to three.
1602: Sharapova holds to love to move 4-3 up - and drops of rain are beginning to fall from the sky. Play continues for now.
1600: Developments on Court One where Sharapova has just broken back. Sugiyama makes a mess of a droop shot on 15-40 and it's back to 3-3. Sharapova took the first set remember.
1558: Time for a round-up from the outside courts. Venus Williams has taken the first set 6-2 against Akiko Morigami. Kuznetsova leads by a set and a break against Radwanska. Ivanovic is 5-2 up on Aravane Rezai. Finally, Nadia Petrova is a set to the good against Virginia Ruano Pascual.
1556: Sugiyama remains a break up in the second set against Sharapova. It's 3-2 on Court One.
1555: Tomas Berdych has taken the first set 6-4 against Hyung-Taik Lee. That's the only men's match under way at present.
1553: Mauresmo saves break point with a brilliant pick up crosscourt winner on the run to end the best rally of the match so far. Two points later the match is all over. Mauresmo wins 6-1 6-2 and looked very much the defending champion. She'll likely play Nicole Vaidisova next. The Czech has taken the first set against Viktoria Azarenka.
1548: Sharapova is on the board in the second set, but Sugiyama still leads by a break at 2-1.
1546: Kuznetsova has taken the first set 6-2 against Agnieszka Radwanska.
1544: It's been a day to forget for Santangelo. She's just lost her serve to love - ending the game with a double fault. Mauresmo will serve for the match at 5-2.
1542: Mauresmo holds to 30 and at 4-2 is just two games away from a place in the last 16.
1540: Hello! Sugiyama has just broken to love in the opening game of the second set. We said she wasn't playing badly and a slightly poor game from Sharapova is fully taken advantage of.
1539: Around the grounds, Svetlana Kuznetsova is already 5-1 up in her match, while Ana Ivanovic leads by a break, as does Venus Williams.
1537: The stats show Sugiyama is not playing badly - just four unforced errors in that first set. However, Sharapova is getting her first serve in 78 per cent of the time so anyone would struggle against that. Meanwhile, it's now 3-2 to Mauresmo in the second set on Centre.
1535: Sugiyama has played Sharapova twice before and on each occasion won the first set. That pattern will not be repeated though as the Russian has just won the first set 6-3 - Sugiyama surrendering her serve with a double fault. It's one-way traffic now after that tight start.
1532: Sharapova holds easily again for 5-3. Sugiyama will now serve to stay in the set.
1530: In the second set on Centre, Santangelo has just dropped serve when a backhand 'winner' was called out. The Hawk-eye replay shows it clipped the line by the Italian didn't challenge! 2-1 to Mauresmo.
1527: Sharapova backs up her break with a love service hold.
1524: Mauresmo served out the first set which she takes 6-1 in just 25 minutes. It looks as if she's determined to gets things done before the rain returns. That's the forecast for later I'm afraid.
1523: Sharapova draws first blood on Court One. After missing five break points in the fifth game, she finally strikes to move 3-2 ahead.
1518: Mauresmo breaks again on Centre and now leads 5-1. It looks easy for the champion.
1516: Play is getting under way on the outside courts with Venus Williams in action against Akiko Morigami. Most of the other ladies' singles third round matches are also due to start, with the likes of Ana Ivanovic and Nicole Vaidisova in action.
1512: It's 2-2 now in the Sharapova-Sugiyama match. Maria just saved a break point in the last game and looks to be in for a tough match. Sugiyama is strong and competitive. She's also serving really well.
1506: 3-0 Mauresmo. It's no wonder she's a popular champion here. She plays grasscourt tennis as it should be played, serving intelligently and getting to the net whenever possible.
1502: Santangelo sends a forehand long on break point to hand Mauresmo a 2-0 lead. She's in early command on Centre.
1459: Good serving from Sugiyama helps her save break point in the opening game of their clash. Sugiyama is no mean player on grass - her doubles expertise (she's a former world number one in pairs) means she is one of the best volleyers on the tour.
1458: Mauresmo holds in the opening game of her third-round match.
1456: Now Sharapova and Sugiyama are under way on Court One.
1454: Play at last! Mauresmo serves the first point of the day against Santangelo on Centre. The pair played at Eastbourne a couple of weeks ago with Mauresmo winning 6-2 6-3. We'd expect a similar scoreline today.
1447: Amelie Mauresmo has just walked onto Centre Court for her match with Mara Santangelo.
1445: It's hoped the action on the outside courts can start at 1500. the players should be on Centre and One soon. Fingers crossed.
1437: The covers are off again and the nets are going up on the show courts. It's hoped they can start in around 10 minutes time.
1435: The wet weather has claimed a number of doubles matches today - they have now been put back until Monday. Among them is Jamie Murray's mixed doubles clash. He is due to team up with Jelena Jankovic but their meeting with the British pair of Richard Bloomfield and Sarah Borwell is one of those to be moved. A reminder that tournament officials have already said that there will be no play tomorrow - middle Sunday.
1425: The umbrellas are still well and truly up and the greys skies are not encouraging.
1415: Still no joy with the weather. However, if you're desperate to see some tennis, check out our video section which has highlights of the first week's action, plus player interviews.
1357: We spoke too soon. The covers have been drawn back across the courts around the grounds. At least the tent is not yet up.
1352: Indeed, the covers are off Centre and the net is now up. There's likely to be more rain later, but it looks as if we will at least get some play.
1345: Things are drying up in SW19 and it's hoped the covers on the two show courts could come off soon. There'll be no play before 1400 though. We'll keep you posted.
1330: There's been some interesting comments from former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash today. The Australian says he thinks that even the men's world number 400 - the little-known Eric Boudon for the record - would beat women's number one Justine Henin these days. "Let's say they play 10 matches. Who would win the most? It would be somewhere near 400, or perhaps even the 500 mark, before I would be confident in the female player winning," he says. "It used to be around 200 but it is a joke how strong men's tennis is now. They just do not miss. In my day a guy outside the top 100 would be quite inconsistent. Today they just don't miss at all. The volley is being lost and 80-90 per cent of the game now is serving and groundstrokes. There are fewer skills which makes it easier to perfect them." Perhaps it's time for another 'Battle of the Sexes', as happened in 1973 when Bobby Riggs was beaten by Billie Jean King in what is believed to be the most watched tennis match of all time.
1300: The action on the show courts is due to get under way now but there's little chance of that due to the rain. At least it seems lighter now but it's hard to see how they can start before at least 1400. A drier spell is due later according to some forecasts. Here's hoping! When (not if - stay postiive) we do get under way, defending champion Amelie Mauresmo is first up on Centre against Italy's Mara Santangelo. Over on Court One, Maria Sharapova is in action against Ai Sugiyama. Both will start hot favourites and should progress. Of the two, Sharapova is probably more under threat. Sugiyama has some decent grasscourt pedigree and made the last eight here in 2004.
1230: The All England Club have confirmed that whatever happens today there will be no play on Sunday. With half of the third round completed, the tournament is sufficiently on schedule to not require the extra day.
1138: The rain is still falling and it is expected that there will be at least an hour's interval between the covers coming off and the courts being fit for play.
1100: Good morning from a wet Wimbledon. There's no chance of any play before 1200 as rain sweeps the country and even then there's only a remote possibility of any action at noon. We'll keep you posted as soon as there is any news of when play will start.
