monday clockwatch
1615 - Federer celebrates his win.
2125: Just to fill you in, play in the matches involving the other Brits was suspended. Jamie Baker led 2-1 against Edouard Roger-Vasselin when they stopped. Katie O'Brien was 5-3 ahead on Sandra Kloesel when play was halted on Court 17. They, like Henman, will be back tomorrow.
2118: So that's play finally over on this rain interrupted day.
2116: Moya holds having saved four match points and the referee walks onto court to talk to the two players about the fading light. That's it for the night. 5-5 in the final set. Henman will have to sleep on those missed opportunities.
2115: Drama. A Moya shot is called out on the Henman baseline. It's challenged and is confirmed out by millimetres. Match point 4. This time a sliced backhand is into the net.
2114: Another double fault from Moya and it's back to deuce. The tension is incredible on Centre, roof or no roof.
2113: A great deep return from Henman forces an error from Moya. Match point number three. Another big serve from Moya gets him out of trouble - Henman psuhing a backhand return wide.
2112: Moya fails to put away a smash and Henman's reaction forehand falls in. Match point for a second time. Another forehand into the net and it's gone again!
2111: Moya moves to game point but then throws in another double fault. Deuce.
2110: A superb backhand pass from Henman brings up match point! Henman has a chance to finish it with a gap down the line on the forehand but it's into the net.
2106: Henman staves off break point at 30-40 and finishes the game with an ace. 5-4 and Moya must hold to stay in the match.
2100: Moya saves one but then double faults on the second! It's all square again. 4-4 in the gathering gloom on Centre. A great match.
2059: Here's Henman's chance. A great returning game from him and a netted Moya forehand makes it 15-40.
2056: Another volley put away and Henman holds. It's 4-3 now but the Briton must still break Moya to stay in this tournament.
2054: Henman comes to the net to save both with volleys. Dogged stuff from the Brit.
2053: Henman pushes two shots long, desperately challenging one which was miles out. It's two break points to Moya now.
2052: Josh Goodall and Feliciano Lopez are done for the day. The bad news for British fans is that Goodall has just lost the second set 6-4 and trails by two sets to love.
2051: A drop-shot winner from Moya takes him to within two games of victory at 4-2.
2047: Despite a stunning lob from Moya, Henman manages to hold to 15. He's still alive in this match but trails 3-2.
2045: O'Brien has broken and now leads Kloesel 4-3. She is the only British player not drawn against a seed in this year's ladies' singles.
2043: From 30-0 down, Henman earns a break point but Moya saves it with a big serve out wide and manages to hold for 3-1.
2039: A passing backhand winner from Moya brings up break point and he draws first blood in the deciding set against Henman when the Briton sends a backhand volley long. Henman will have to break serve now to stay in the tournament. He trails 2-1.
2037: Play has been suspended out on Court 14 where 20th seed Juan Carlos Ferrero has fought back from two sets down against Jan Hajek. They will come back to play their decider tomorrow. Meanwhile, Marion Bartoli, the 18th seed, is through.
2036: Moya levels at 1-1. He's serve-volleyed a lot today which is a big surprise from the claycourt specialist who won the French Open back in 1998. It's a tactic that's worked well for him.
2035: A British update. New British number one Katie O'Brien is 3-2 down to Sandra Kloesel out on Court 17, but the first set remains on serve at present. Josh Goodall is a break down in the second set after losing the first to Feliciano Lopez.
2033: Henman is crucially serving first in the decider and he holds in the opening game to 15.
2029: It looks like they will continue. The crowd is really into this match now. They and, you suspect, Henman certainly want to see the action go on.
2028: A double fault from Moya brings up set point for Henman and a superb drop volley winner from Tiger Tim means they're into a final set.
2027: Speaking after her win, Serena Williams has confirmed she has been hampered by a hamstring problem. She said: "It's doing OK, I am just taking it a day at a time. It's better than it was a couple of days ago. It's improving slowly but surely. I am glad I have tomorrow off, that will help. I will continue to have it looked after." She is due to play Alicia Molik in round two on Wednesday. For more on Williams' win, click here.
2024: Henman holds for 5-2 and is now back in the ascendancy. Some matches around the grounds have been suspended now though and you get the impression that if this does go into a decider they'll have to come back tomorrow.
2017: It's not going so well for another of the Brits. Josh Goodall has just lost the first set 6-1 to another Spaniard Feliciano Lopez.
2015: Another key game in the Henman-Moya clash and we could be heading for a fifth set. A searing pass from Henman sets up break point and when Moya sends a forehand wide the Brit has a 3-1 lead.
2005: Henman holds in the first game of the fourth set - much to the crowd's delight. It's getting a little gloomy overhead now so perhaps the weather will give Henman the chance to come back tomorrow. In theory though, there should be a good hour's play still to be had tonight.
2001: Moya holds to 15 to take the third set 7-5 and Henman is now facing an uphill struggle to keep his 2007 bid alive. He's two sets to one down.
2000: Paul-Henri Mathieu has had a good year and his good form continues with a convincing 7-6 6-2 6-2 win over last year's quarter-finalist Radek Stepanek. The Czech is engaged to Martina Hingis - at least she won today. Mathieu plays Ferrer in round two.
1958: If you're wondering what's happened to James Blake, who was due third on Court One, he'll play tomorrow as the earlier rain delays meant several matches were put back.
1957: Moya ups his game annd breaks Henman to love. The British star is now in big trouble - Moya will serve for a two-sets-to-one lead.
1954: A love hold for Moya as he and Henman move deep into the third set. 5-5.
1951: Henman holds for 5-4, putting the pressure onto Moya for the next game. Meanwhile, David Ferrer, noot known for his grasscourt prowess, has just crushed Sergio Roitman 6-3 6-3 6-1. Perhaps the 17th seed is going to enjoy a good year here.
1945: Playing better now, Henman holds for 4-3. This third set is going to be crucial to the outcome you feel.
1943: Andy Roddick's next opponent is now known - he'll play Thai Danai Udomchoke who's just beaten Carlos Berlocq in straight sets.
1938: Serena Williams is also through. Lourdes Dominguez Lino put up a good fight in the first set but there was only one winner once Williams was into her stride. She's just finished as a 7-5 6-0 victor.
1936: Henin is through with a 6-3 6-0 win over Cravero. It was a straightforward victory for the top seed but she was given a decent workout by the Argentine. A love set was somewhat harsh on Cravero.
1935: Cravero is now serving to stay in the match on Court One with Henin on the cusp of victory.
1934: Potentially crucial moments in the Henman-Moya match. The Spaniard is again taken to deuce as Henman presses but manages to level at 2-2.
1929: Serena seems to be cruising through now. After that tight first set it's now 4-0 in the second.
1928: A huge roar goes up on Centre as Henman wins a Hawk-eye challenge before holding for 2-1 with an ace out wide. Better from the Brit.
1927: Briton Jamie Baker is about to start his opener out on Court Four against France's Edouard Roger-Vasselin. We'll keep you informed of his progress.
1925: Cravero is really giving it a go. She's a powerful player but no wonder, she's carrying a bit of weight! It's now 3-0 to Henin on Court One. Over on Court Two, Serena Williams is 2-0 up in the second set.
1924: Moya holds after satving off two break points. At least Henman seems to have bucked his ideas up a bit now.
1922: Henin appears to be closing in on victory. She's just gone a break up in the second set having taken the first. It's 2-0.
1919: Henman fights back from 15-30 down to win the opening game of the second set - a much-needed game for the crowd favourite.
1916: Ladies' 15th seed Patty Schnyder scrapes into the second round with a 6-1 4-6 8-6 victory over France's Camille Pin. She goes through to face Roberta Vinci. Pin had led 5-1 in the decider.
1914: Serena Williams is another seed who's had to fight hard in her opening set of the tournament. The Australian Open champion has just taken it though - 7-5 against Lourdes Dominguez Lino.
1912: Henman loses the second set 6-1 and the momentum in this match on Centre has swung since the rain delay. It's all square now and the Briton needs to inject something into his game now.
1911: Henin takes the first set 6-3 against Cravero but has to fight harder than she may have expected.
1909: Henman has just played a horrible game to fall a double break down in the second set. Moya now lead 5-1 and Henman's level has sunk considerably.
1900: With Moya now 3-0 up, Henman has some work to do now in this second set. He's not been as good since the rain delay.
1855: Serving at 0-1 in the second set, Henman faces two break points. The first is saved with a big serve but on the second Moya produces an awkward return which forces an error from the Briton. 2-0 Moya.
1853: It's not all plain sailing for top seed Henin against qualifier Cravero. The Belgian star broke upon the resumption but her opponent replies immediately to level at 2-2.
1848: The British star clinches the set 6-3 and that edgy restart is put firmly behind him. It's been a good match so far from the British number two.
1847: Henman immediately loses two points in a row but a big first serve saves break point.
1846: We're back under way.
1842: Players are warming up all over the All England Club. On Centre, Tim Henman leads Carlos Moya 5-3. It's 1-1 in the early stages on Court One where Justine Henin is up against Jorgelina Cravero.
1840: Naomi Cavaday says she's "gutted" to have blown her chance against Martina Hingis earlier. The British teenager squandered two match points against the former champion before losing. She says that the difference was Hingis' mental toughness. At only 18, Cavaday will be back to compete in the junior event next week.
1835: The players are due back out in five minutes to resume.
1818: The sun is shining again with dark clouds moving away. The covers arecoming off and hoepfully we'll have more play soon.
1800: The supposed better weather predicted is nowhere to be seen at present. Rain is coming down heavily at present. We'll keep you updated.
1752: The groundstaff really aren't sure what to do. Now the rain is coming down hard and covers are going on all around the All England Club now.
1743: That's jinxed it. No sooner has that been written than the rain comes down again. It's not too heavy but heavy enough for the covers to come back over Centre. Court One remains uncovered though which shows it's not a big shower.
1740: The players are back out on Court One - Henin and Cravero are just about to resume.
1725: The covers are coming back off and it looks as if we should get more play soon, with the forecast better for this evening.
1711: Now is a good time to remind you all of the main stories so far today. Roger Federer and Andy Roddick both opened with their expected straight-sets wins. Martina Hingis had things rather tougher against Briton Naomi Cavaday, who twice held match point against the former champion before losing the last nine games in an agonising 6-7 7-5 6-0 loss.
1709: Over on Court One, Henin had drawn level at 1-1 before the rain began to fall. Serena Williams is leve; at 3-3 against Dominguez Lino.
1707: With Henman 30-15 and serving for the set at 5-3 rain forces a suspension of play. It's a similar tale around the grounds with covers being drawn across the lawns.
1706: The first men's seed to fall is Philipp Kohlschreiber. The German, seeded 27, has just lost 7-6 6-4 6-4 to Florent Serra.
1704: Henin loses the first game to qualifier Jorgelina Cravero on Court One.
1702: It's now 5-2 Henman on Centre. Is this really the man who's won just two matches on the main ATP Tour this season? He's looked rock solid so far.
1700: Fifth-seeded Fernando Gonzalez is into round two. He lost the first set to Robby Ginepri and was also 4-1 down in the second-set tie-break. However, he's just walking off Court 13 as a 3-6 7-6 6-2 6-2 winner.
1658: Hingis survived the so-called Champions' Graveyard curse that belongs to Court Two. Now the much-fancied Serena Williams is out there. In the early stages against Lourdes Dominguez Lino, of Spain, she's 2-1 up with the match on serve.
1656: Still struggling to get our heads around the roofless Centre Court. On it Henman leads Moya 4-2. Interestingly hgih winds are predicted tomorrow - that could have a major effect on conditions on the main arena.
1653: Men's 13th seed Tommy Haas is through. The German has eased past Zach Fleishman 6-3 6-4 6-2.
1651: With Roddick done and dusted, the crowd on Court One are now awaiting the ladies' top seed, Justine Henin. Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam event she has yet to win and many feel this will be her year. She is considered the favourite with most pundits.
1649: On his fifth break point, Henman finally converts. Moya nets and falls 3-1 behind. It's been a fine start from Britain's favourite.
1648: Roddick seals his place in round two with a 6-1 7-5 7-6 victory over Gimelstob. The third seed takes the tie-break 7-3,winning the last five points.
1647: It's Henman pushing again but once more the Spaniard holds his nerve to save break point.
1645: Moya staves off another break point, Henman making an unsuccessful Hawk-eye challenge.
1644: Two break points for Henman against Moya. Both are saved, the second with the first ace of the match.
1641: Roddick is into a tie-break in the third set against Gimelstob. He'll want to get this done as quickly as possible so focus is everything in the breaker.
1640: Henman goes 2-1 up on Moya. On the outside courts, Fernando Gonzalez, the fifth seed, has come from a set down to lead Robby Ginepri 2-1. He's just taken the second set 6-2.
1637: Hingis wraps up victory against Cavaday, taking the decider 6-0. Cavaday won just eight points in the final set having missed those match points in the second set. The final result is no great surprise - wild card Cavaday is the world number 232 - but the manner of her agonising defeat will haunt her for perhaps many years. Hingis will have to improve significantly to stand any chance of regaining the title she won here in 1997.
1633: Henman takes the opening game against Moya on Centre. The first cheer of 'come on Tim' has just been heard.
1632: It doesn't look like Cavaday will win another game - an all-too-predictable collapse after missing those match points. It's now 5-0 to Hingis.
1630: After a truly epic ninth game of the third set, Gimelstob holds and leads Roddick 5-4 on Court One. Meanwhile, 16th seed Shahar Peer has won her first-round game.
1627: Henman walks out on to Centre Court to the acclaim of the crowd. He faces former world number one Carlos Moya today, although he has little grasscourt pedigree.
1626: It's Hingis 3-0 up now on Court Two and those two match points now appear to be a distant memmory - although perhaps not in the Briton's head.
1619: Hingis breaks in the opening game of the final set. You can sense what's going to happen here and it's not what Cavaday wants to hear.
1615: It's all over on Centre - Roger Federer is a 6-3 6-2 6-4 winner over Teimuraz Gabashvili. Any hopes his rivals had of early trouble for a supposedly 'ring-rusty' champion have been soundly put to bed. Now we await Tim Henman - he plays Carlos Moya.
1613: Cavaday has break point against Hingis but misses it and two points later the match is all square. It's hard to see Cavaday winning from here after missing those two match points.
1611: On Court One, Gimelstob has shaken off the first-set nerves and is giving Roddick a decent game. Still, the third seed leads by two sets and it's 4-3 on serve in the third.
1609: Hingis breaks Cavaday and the words brave Brit are already echoing around Court Two. Hingis will serve for the second set at 6-5. On Centre, Federer is just a game away from round two. He leads 5-3 in the third set.
1607: Fernando Gonzalez, seed five, has levelled up at one set all against Robby Ginepri. The second set went to a tie-break and Ginepri led it 4-1 before losing six straight points to the big-hitting Chilean.
1605: Hingis holds on to her serve - just. Has Cavaday's chance gone? It could be another case of plucky Brit - so near yet, so far.
1604: A tight looking forehand misses match point but there's soon another. Hingis saves it again with a forehand winner behind Cavaday as she comes back across court.
1603: Match point to the Briton! She takes Hingis out wide and then crunches a forehand winner.
1602: Cavaday is forced to go long but then an error from Hingis make it 30-30.1601: A netted forehand from Cavaday - 15-15.
1601: A double fault from Hingis - 0-15.
1600: Cavaday holds to love and at 5-4 is just a game away from a huge upset against former champ Hingis.
1558: Break-back point from Cavaday and she takes it! She's now back at 4-4 against Hingis in set two, having taken the first. The Swiss must be seriously worried now.
1554: Lucie Safarova, the 25th seed, is safely through after a 7-5 6-2 win over Zuzana Ondraskova.
1550: The first Hawk-eye challenge in Centre Court history. Gabashvili calls incorrectly - a Federer forehand called in did clip the outside of the line. For more on the introduction of the system, click here.
1549: Roddick serves out for a two-set-to-love lead after just 67 minutes on court. Federer is already a break up in the third (and probably final) set against Gabashvili. On Court Two, Hingis leads 3-2 with a break as she attempts to prevent a big upset by Cavaday.
1546: A double fault followed by a poor volley from Gimelstob against Roddick sees him drop serve and the third seed will now serve for the second set. Roddick leads 6-5.
1542: A third straight break in the Hingis-Cavaday clash and it's advantage Hingis once more in the second set.
1540: Hingis' famously weak service has been very much in evidence today and Cavaday breaks to love to level at 1-1 in the second set. The Swiss Miss is certainly in trouble today.
1539: Federer now leads by two sets to love. He takes the second set 6-2 against Gabashvili. It's like he was never away.
1538: Hingis breaks in the opening game of the second set as she launches her fightback.
1536: We have our first winner of this year's championships. Kaia Kanepi has just beaten Tatjana Malek in the ladies' singles.
1535: A fine tie-break from Cavaday and the big-hitting left-hander takes it 7-1 against the former champion. A real shock could be on the cards. Pete Sampras is anmong the list of big names to have lost on Court Two, the Champions' Graveyard - is Hingis about to add her name to that list?
1532: Federer's cakewalk continues. He now leads by a set and 5-1. Out on Court Two, Cavaday has taken Hingis into a first-set tie-break.
1528: It's been a much better effort from Gimelstob in the second set on Court One. He's 3-2 ahead with the set on serve.
1525: If you hadn't figured it out, you can follow the matches from the show courts via the links above. We have live point-by-point updates from the two main arenas.
1523: Gabashvili breaks a run of six straight games against him to make it 2-1 on Centre. Federer looks easy though and still has a break of serve.
1522: A steely display from Cavaday sees her fend off several set points against Hingis before levelling at 5-5.
1517: Federer breaks Gabashvili in the opening game of the second set - that's five in a row now for the champion.
1515: Fifth seed Fernando Gonzalez - the Australian Open runner-up - has lost the first set to Robby Ginepri out on court 13. The American takes it 6-3. Will that be the first big shock of this year's event?
1514: Federer did not play in Halle this year so this is his first grasscourt match of the season. However, there seems to be little ring rust. He's just taken the first set 6-2 on Centre.
1510: Some light rain is falling and some courts have stopped for the time being. They continue on the show courts for now.1509: Hingis is back level with Cavaday. It's 4-4 on Court Two and it seems the Swiss Miss has engaged first gear at last.
1508: Federer gets the first break on Centre and leads 4-2 against Gabashvili.
1507: Roddick clinches the first set against Gimelstob in just 25 minutes. He's on his way to round two it seems.
1505: Gimelstob wins a game and salutes the Court One crowd! 5-1. Meanwhile Cavaday still leads Hingis - it's 4-3.
1502: Roddick leads 5-0 and is steamrollering his fellow American Gimelstob at present.
1458: Federer leads 2-1 on Centre. It's going with serve.
1457: Hingis takes one of the breaks back against Cavaday, but Roddick takes Gimelstob's serve again and is sweeping through the first set. It's now 4-0.
1452: Roddick is already 3-0 up on Gimelstob - it's been a flying start for the Artois Championships winner.
1451: There's already a story brewing on Court Two - the famous champions' graveyard. Naomi Cavaday has broken Hingis for a second time and leads 3-0.
1445: Cavaday breaks Hingis in the opening game. A great start for the young Brit.
1443: An easy hold for the champion and he looks in good nick early on. Out on Court One, Andy Roddick is under way against Justin Gimelstob and on Court Two it's Martina Hingis v Britain's Naomi Cavaday.
1440: We're under way and Federer wins the first point on the roofless Centre Court against Teimuraz Gabashvili.
1438: Roger Federer has just walked out on to Centre Court - in his trademark jacket. He has white trousers on too this year ahead of his warm up.
1430: Play is start in 10 minutes time, it has been announced.
1412: Nets are going up around the grounds at the All England Club, so play could well start at that suggested 1430 time.
1405: Good news! The covers have just come off Centre Court and the lush grass is now on show for all to see. We could well see some play in the next hour - if the rain holds off.
1400: When play does start, a reminder that Roger Federer is due first on court against Teimuraz Gabashvili. The Swiss is a red-hot favourite with virtually anyone you talk to for a fifth straight title here but even the great man admits he fears a shock exit. He said yesterday: "I'm confident, but still that (shock loss) crosses your mind. You don't want to be the one defending champion that loses first. But of course I'm focused on the big picture, trying to play well. There's a huge excitement for me every time walking through the corridors, down on Centre Court, seeing the pictures, the board on the left-hand side with the names, see the trophy behind you. It's just an incredible walk. It gets you totally excited about the championships." Hopefully Federer will be making that walk soon, but at present the covers remain on.
1346: Play has now been put back until 1430 at the earliest.
1340: Bored by the rain already? Then check out our Wimbledon quiz.
1320: Another announcement and another delay - no play now until at least 1400.
1227: It's now been announced that there will be no play before 1330.
1225: You have to feel sorry for the fans, some of whom are already in their Centre Court seats. This year there's no roof on the famous arena as work is continuing on adding a retractable roof in time for the 2009 tournament. That leaves everyone out in the open. The other big change to this year's event is theintroduction of the Hawk-eye line-calling system on the two show courts. For more on these two changes, click here.
1220: The rain stopped briefly but has begun again. A 1230 start isn't going to happen. The forecast for the next few hours isn't good but brighter periods are expected later in the day.
1205: For those who have somehow avoided the fact, Andy Murray won't be playing this year's tournament. The British number one admitted defeat to his wrist injury yesterday and as much as he will be missed in SW19, that surely has to be the right decision. Murray's favourite period of the year - the North American hardcourt season - is coming up on the horizon and that is when the Scot has many ranking points to defend. Had he played here and made the injury worse, his ranking would have plummeted over the coming weeks if he was unable to play. Let's just look forward to seeing Murray back in action and making a bid for the US Open in August. It's always been the Grand Slam he's said he's most likely to win. The current plan is for Murray to return to action in Los Angeles in mid-July.
1147: We've just heard the start of play has been put back until at least 1230 due to the rain.
1145: Perhaps Britain's best chance of an upset today rests on Lee Childs' shoulders. He takes on Pakistan's Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi, who recently beat Richard Gasquet in Halle. In the ladies' singles, Katie O'Brien seems to have the best chance of the home players in reaching round two. The Yorkshire player meets Sandra Kloesel, ranked 104 in the world. As for the other Brits, Joshua Goodall takes on Feliciano Lopez, while Jamie Baker faces Edouard Roger-Vasselin.
1140: Andy Roddick, top ladies' seed Justine Henin and James Blake are the big names scheduled to play on Court One today. On the outside courts, Martina Hingis and Serena Williams are due out on Court Two. Hingis, who won the title here 10 years ago, faces British wild card Naomi Cavaday, a youngster with some potential.
1135: When we do get play today, there's plenty to look forward to. As is traditional, men's champion Roger Federer opens up on Centre Court. He's up against a Russian, Teimuraz Gabashvili, the world number 86. Second on Centre is perhaps the big match of the day - British number two Tim Henman against former world number one Carlos Moya. Despite having won just two matches on the ATP Tour this season, Britain's four-time semi-finalist starts as the favourite with the bookies. The last match on Centre will see world number three Jelena Jankovic face Britain's Anne Keothavong.
1130: Oh dear. A bad start to Wimbledon 2007 as the rain is at present falling in SW19. The scheduled start at 1200 could well be put back. The forecast isn't great for today either with heavy showers predicted throughout the day.
