Stephen Huss and Wesley Moodie made Wimbledon history on Saturday when they became the first ever qualifiers to win the men's doubles title.

Playing on Court One at the All England Club, the Australia-South Africa duo beat the Bryan brothers, Mike and Bob, 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 6-7 (2-7) 6-3.

The win completed a remarkable Wimbledon journey which began almost three weeks ago in rather less grand surroundings at the qualifying event at Roehampton.

The Bryans, who were losing their fifth consecutive Grand Slam final and third this year, raised their hopes in the third set but had the door slammed firmly in their faces in the fourth.

Afterwards Huss said: "I know it is not a dream with the feelings I'm having. I've been in and out of Challengers and back to tour events but I'm surprised to be a Wimbledon champion. Yet whenever we go out on courts we expect to win."

Moodie, who said he will buy a new house with the £110,000 prize money, joked: "Steve was just waiting to find the right partner. But a key for me is that he is quite relaxed on the courts.

"I've had a few setbacks in my singles career but right now I'm playing the best of my life and it was only because I had a back injury at Queen's that I didn't qualify for Wimbledon singles. I missed out in the final round."
