Roger Federer admitted he rode his luck in beating Andy Roddick to claim a second successive Wimbledon title.

Federer recovered from losing the first set and trailing 4-2 in the third to record a 4-6 7-5 7-6 6-4 triumph in two hours and 30 minutes on Centre Court.

It was the 22-year-old's second Grand Slam title of the year after his Australian Open win in January, but the top seed and world number one was far from his imperious best.

"He played very, very aggressive and I got lucky today for sure, I was down a break at one set all and if Andy maybe served a few good games he would be up two sets to one," Federer admitted.

"He also deserves this title so I hope in the future we are going to play many more times at this place."

Federer again shed a few tears after a 12th ace of the match sealed victory, but maintained his composure much better than a year ago.

"I cried already so that's enough, but it's still an unbelievable feeling," he added on BBC1.

"It's very difficult to believe it but I'm definitely enjoying this moment as much as I can."

Federer has now won all three Grand Slam finals he has been in and added: "I like the 100% record because these are the ones that really really count.

"It puts you just a step higher and to have won my favourite tournament twice already in my career is just incredible."

Roddick was left to rue numerous chances to win the third set and force a fifth set decider, but was gracious in defeat, saying: "Roger just played too good.

"I threw the kitchen sink at him but he went out to the bathroom and got the tub!

"It's tough losing but I can console myself I left everything out here and Roger is a great champion. Hopefully we'll get to do this again some time."

The US Open champion refused to blame the second rain delay which came when he was leading 4-2 in the third set, adding: "It's tough but in all fairness it's tough for both players.

"I didn't go through anything different than Roger did and he came out and just took advantage of it. It's more credit to him."

Sunday's final was the first meeting between the top two seeds since 1982 and could be a rivalry repeated for several years to come at Wimbledon.

"I'm going to have to start winning some of them to call it a rivalry," added Roddick, who has now won just one of their seven meetings.

"God willing I'm going to be back, this is one of my favourite places so I wouldn't miss it."

Federer later added: "I'm just very happy I came out of the rain break a better player. "I came to the net more and the sunshine came at the same time and I'm happy I had a great reaction.

"After the rain break I thought that would allow me to get some more points. It makes me happy and proud that I made the right decision at such a vital moment.

"I had to serve and volley. Andy was getting too many returns back. I thought I'd get more free points and not have to rally every time because that was killing me. From the baseline on my serve he was taking a lot of risk. That was very dangerous for me."

Federer admitted that he had found the rocket Roddick serve too hot to handle in the first set when the American smashed down two deliveries at 145mph.

"He was just serving too big, 10 miles an hour quicker at the beginning of match than in the rest of it. He was serving second serves at 120. That was the key to the first set," said Federer.

"He was playing really well and not allowing me to play the way I wanted to. In the end he was hitting them at 100 to get more kick on them which maybe I prefer a little bit. He was playing safer and that was better for me. I think this is why the match turned."
