Tennis legend Martina Navratilova bowed out of Wimbledon for the last time on Saturday after falling just short of Billie Jean King's record of titles.
Navratilova, who first retired from the WTA tour in 1995, will play on to the end of the year but admitted her exit from Wimbledon represented a major anti-climax.
"I know I won't be playing (here next year)," she said. "This is a lot less
emotional than last time.
"The way it ended was pretty anti-climactic. It ended on a definite weird
note, to say the least. We gave it our best shot but they were too good."
Navratilova's defeat leaves her with one ambition left in her glorious career - the Olympic Games in Athens next month.
"Our goal for the whole year was the Olympics more than Wimbledon," she
said. "That's why I really played one more year.
"It wasn't to play Wimbledon, it was to play the Olympics so we still have
that to look forward to.
"I still think we can pick it up another notch or two and we know we have
that. But we have to get there."
