DIALOGUE CONTINUES OVER BOYCOTT

Wimbledon officials and their counterparts from the three other Grand Slam events have set up a working party to combat the threat of a boycott by the world's top male players.

The ATP, who run men's tennis, want a hike in prize money plus a greater share of all income taken at Grand Slam events invested in the professional game.

It was even suggested that other events could be created to run at the same time as the Slam events - Wimbledon plus the US, Australian and French Opens - leading to a mass withdrawal from the traditional major tournaments.

However a statement from the Grand Slam Committee (GSC) tonight revealed that "several days" of meetings with the ATP, plus officials from the women's tour, had been completed.

The GSC revealed the ATP have so far refused to withdraw their 'participation agreement', which threatened to set up rival events, but that working groups had been set up to deal with calendar/format and marketing/promotion issues with "representatives from the Grand Slams, ITF, ATP and WTA Tour".

"The GSC is disappointed in ATP leadership's current unwillingness to void the participation agreement, the continued existence of which will have a negative impact on further discussions," read the statement.

"However, the GSC remains determined to have constructive and inclusive dialogue with all constituents on important issues within the sport."
