Rain came to Tim Henman's rescue as the British number one teetered on the brink of a Wimbledon exit.
The home favourite trailed by two sets to one when the rain returned to finally end play in his quarter-final with Sebastien Grosjean.
The weather had already interrupted play several times in the match and the players will now return on Thursday.
After fighting back from 1-5 down, Henman finally lost the first set on a tie-break.
But the British star stormed back into the match by winning the second set 6-3.
A tense third saw the players trade breaks early on before Henman decisively lost his delivery in the eighth game and Grosjean served out the set 6-3 to move within one set of the last four.
Henman managed to move 2-1 up on serve in the fourth when the rains returned and tournament referee Alan Mills decided to suspended play for the day.
Over on Court One, Mark Philippoussis was staging a remarkable comeback against Alexander Popp in their quarter-final when rain intervened.
Philippoussis lost the first two sets 6-4 6-4 against the German surprise package, but the man nicknamed 'Scud' hit back to force a deciding set, winning the third and fourth sets, both by six games to three.
However, with a thrilling match level at 2-2 in the fifth set, rain forced the players from the court for the third and final time.
Like Henman and Grosjean, they will now return on Thursday to complete the match.
Roger Federer and Sjeng Schalken - who have both declared themselves fit to play after injury scares - did not get a chance to start their last-eight encounter and they will now play on Thursday.
Likewise, Andy Roddick's meeting with Jonas Bjorkman has also been put back a day.
