Verdict: As a 19-year-old Majoli stunned the sport with her baseline game overcoming Martina Hingis in the 1997 French Open final.

Was then struck down by injury and missed more than a year after shoulder surgery.

Having dropped outside the top 100, Majoli almost shocked Hingis again in the US Open last season as she returned to something approaching her best.

She has won in Charleston and was runner-up in Bol this year on clay and will now hope to replicate the quarter-final display here of her 1997 hey day.

Despite her return to something like her best form, that looks unlikely.
