Verdict: Panova endured a miserable first half to 2001 but after pushing Jennifer Capriati hard at Wimbledon the Russian has not looked back since.

She went on to reach six quarter-finals in the second half of last season and already this year has finished runner-up in Auckland and Sarasota.

Panova also reached the last eight in Miami.

However, the arrival of the clay season brought about a slump and she may well be glad to be on anything but the red dirt.

Doesn't have a great grass track record though.
