Verdict: The Belgian teenager was one the big success stories of 2001 in women's tennis.
She went agonisingly close to Grand Slam glory in Paris where she finally succumbed 12-10 in the final set to Jennifer Capriati.
More at home on the clay courts she was brought up on, she reached the last eight here last year but did not have the weapons to trouble Lindsay Davenport on grass.
Has been struggling with a shoulder injury this year and has subsequenly had some patchy results, winning in Hamburg but losing in the third round of the French Open where she was considerably below her best.
Much will depend on her fitness again.
