Ivanisevic in action in last year's final.

SURPRISE WIMBLEDON FINALISTS

David Nalbandian reached the final of the men's singles at Wimbledon in his first-ever grass-court tournament.

The Argentinian beat Belgian Xavier Malisse in five sets and now faces world number one Lleyton Hewitt.

Here PA Sport looks at other recent players who have upset the odds at the All England Club.

BORIS BECKER (1985): Becker burst on to the world scene, becoming the youngest-ever winner of the Wimbledon men's singles aged just 17 years 227 days in 1985.

The German was unseeded, but his powerful serve and acrobatic approach carried him past higher-ranked opponents and he beat American Kevin Curren in four sets in the final.

MALIVAI WASHINGTON (1996): Washington reached the final by beating fellow American Todd Martin in the semis but could not cope with the powerful serve of Richard Krajicek, who beat him in straight sets.

CEDRIC PIOLINE (1997): The Frenchman exceeded all expectations to make it through to the final, but Pete Sampras proved far too strong for him, winning 6-4 6-2 6-4 to claim the fourth of his seven titles.

GORAN IVANISEVIC (2001): Ivanisevic had been a losing finalist three times as a seed, but he finally made the extra step to become champion last year as a wild card, beating Pat Rafter in an epic battle on Centre Court.
