World Ranking: 13 |
Verdict: Pete Sampras needs no introduction, particularly at Wimbledon.
Few would question the statement that the American is the greatest player ever to grace the Centre Court.
He has won this title on seven previous occasions - but he is now undoubtedly on the wane. Sampras has not won a title of any kind since Wimbledon 2000.
Many felt the beginning of the end was last year's fourth-round defeat against Roger Federer and Sampras has yet to prove them wrong.
Suffered a disappointing loss in Halle to Nicolas Kiefer in the warm-up, but if there is to be one last hurrah, it will surely be here.
