Date of Birth: 24.02.81
Became pro: 1998
World ranking (ATP entry system): 1 (as of 17/06/02) |
Verdict: The player of 2001, much is now expected of Hewitt.
He used his hardcourt prowess to win the US Open in September and then went on to win the end-of-season Masters Cup, finishing the season as world number one.
But doubts still surround the Australian when it comes to Wimbledon.
Has shown he can win on grass from the back of the court with a hat-trick victories at Queen's Club recently completed, but success at Wimbledon has not been forthcoming.
Reached the fourth round last season and was dumped out by Nicolas Escude, a player who also beat him on grass in the Davis Cup final.
Likely to reach the second week, but there look to be better grass players.
