(2) MARAT SAFIN (RUS)

Date of Birth: 27.01.80
Became pro: 1997
World ranking: 2 |
Verdict: This time last season, Safin was enduring a wretched run of form which belied his status as the 2000 US Open champion.
However, he has since bounced back and this year he has finished runner-up at the Australian Open and reached the last four at Roland Garros.
It can be argued that Safin's resurgence began in SW19 last year when he unexpectedly reached the last eight before losing to eventual champion Goran Ivanisevic.
With a big serve, Safin will always cause trouble on grass, but there have to be question marks over his volleying skills.
