Amelie Mauresmo crushed third seed Jennifer Capriati on Centre Court on Wednesday to
move into her second Grand Slam semi-final.
The ninth-seeded Frenchwoman won 6-3 6-2 in a match twice delayed by rain.
Capriati's demise began in the sixth game of the first set when she
double-faulted twice with rain beginning to spit down to hand Mauresmo a break.
After a short delay for rain, Mauresmo only had time to keep her nerve and
hold serve before another interruption.
But Mauresmo continued to score with her crashing groundstrokes while Capriati
struggled to get to grips with her serve and called an injury time-out for a
left shoulder strain.
Mauresmo ruthlessly exposed Capriati's weaknesses to break in the third and
fifth games and serve out comprehensively to complete her impressive win.
Mauresmo will meet Serena Williams in the semi-finals after the number two seed saw off Daniela Hantuchova in straight sets on on Court One in a match disrupted four times by rain.
Williams triumphed 6-3 6-2 over the 19-year-old Slovakian beauty.
Meanwhile, Tim Henman successfully negotiated a tricky evening which required him to play
just one set of his quarter-final match with Brazilian Andre Sa in the gathering
gloom of a cold and dismal SW19.
He won that first set 6-3 before the rains which saw players scurrying in and
out of the changing rooms all afternoon came down again and play was abandoned
for the day.
Richard Krajicek, the 1996 Wimbledon champion, finally completed his marathon
fourth-round battle of the big-servers at 9.12pm to overcome Mark Philippoussis and reach the men's singles quarter-finals where he will meet
Xavier Malisse.
The Dutchman won a rain-interrupted match, which began on Tuesday afternoon,
6-7 (2-7) 7-6 (7-4) 6-7 (1-7) 7-6 (7-5) 6-4.
