Jo-Wilfried Tsonga became a household name among tennis fans last season when he reached the final of the Australian Open.
And despite missing a big chunk of the season due to a knee injury, the Frenchman still managed to qualify for the Masters Cup.
After another solid season, which has brought titles in Marseille and Johannesburg, Tsonga remains on course to reach the season-ending showpiece again.
However, he will need to raise his level if he wants to challenge in New York.
Tsonga suffered early losses in both Washington and Cincinnati leading up to this event, although those defeats were somewhat overshadowed by his stunning win over Roger Federer in the Montreal quarter-finals.
There the Muhammad Ali lookalike came from 5-1 down in the final set to stun the world number one, proving that on his day he's capable of beating anyone on the tour.
