VERDICT

The US Open will be the Hungarian number one's seventh Grand Slam event and she'll be looking to at least emulate last year's achievement of reaching the quarter-final, where she lost to eventual runner-up Svetlana Kuznetsova. The 19-year-old right-hander has come a long way in such a short time, climbing the rankings with victories in Palermo and Beijing throughout 2007, although she's still without a tour title this season. In Beijing her Olympic dream ended at the first hurdle with a defeat to home hope Jie Zheng but nevertheless a promising career lies ahead.
