VERDICT

Yet to make a real impact at any of this season's majors, the 21-year-old Russian will look back at last year's run to the US Open semi-finals as a source of encouragement. That said, Chakvetadze has largely struggled to continue where she left off in 2007 - a year in which she won four tour titles - and her only trophy since has been the Open Gaz de France back in February. Time is certainly on her side as she looks towards the future although fans in Russia will be expecting Grand Slam success to come sooner rather than later.
