VERDICT

Bartoli shot to fame at last year's Wimbledon when she was a beaten finalist but since then hasn't come close to reaching similar heights. Back-to-back first round exits at the Australian and French Opens earlier this year were followed up by disappointment in the third round in SW19 but the 23-year-old showed signs of form by making the final of July's Bank of the West Classic in Stanford, where she lost to Aleksandra Wozniak. Bartoli, who plays two-handed on both sides, leads the French challenge at Flushing Meadows but few are expecting a genuine title challenge.
